I, of course, first heard of Dr. Who via the two Peter Cushing feature films loosely based on the first few seasons of the original series during the William Hartnell era. But, it wasn't till my family got cable TV, circa 1975, that I first got to tune in one of the newly-syndicated-to American television episodes ("The Sontaran Experiment" starring Tom Baker and Elisabeth Sladen). Naturally, I was puzzled by the difference in appearance between the two versions of the title character. Yet, I was still hooked, right away!
And, as off-beat as this morning's pairing might initially seem, it's still delightful enough that I humbly suggest this for a sequel. A TV GUIDE ad simulation using photo-captures of Mr. Baker and Stanley Stimpel (the Hamilton Camp look-alike who played a quite-different Mr. Terrific on a one-shot series from CBS during the 1960's).
I first saw it on PBS. Came on at 6 pm during the week. I think I was 6 years old. I would love to see a follow up with the Doctor meeting the Golden Age Mr. Terrific.

Saw Jon Pertwee first...a bit dry for me. Saw Tom sometime after Robot. Great work. Now, Big Finish productions in England has Tom and David T. together in a cd adventure. It's worth a look!!

Tom Baker was my Doctor too. I haven't had much interest otherwise.
I was interested in Doctor Who when it first aired on Oregon's state-run PBS stations. I first watched "Terror of the Zygons," with its lovably horrible VFX, but only watched it sporadically until the episode progression cycled back to the then-incomplete Pertwee years. While Tom remains definitive to the franchise as a whole, Jon remains "My Doctor," with his James Bond-like stories and larger supporting cast. (Even though the only incarnations that I cosplay are Colin Baker's Sixth
Doctor and John Hurt's War Doctor.)
That's _Stephen_ Strimpell, in the role of Stanley Beamish. Speaking of which, it'd be fun to see the JSA's Mr. Terrific meet the TV hero of the same name. Or even Mr. T.
