Justice League of America and Gargoyle

There has been lots of discussion about what to do with the next Avengers movie now that Jonathan Majors' Kang is out of the picture.  They could recast and call it a variant, but Marvel seems to want to move on.  Many have said to use Doctor Doom, but he should be with the Fantastic Four.  I'd love to see Nightmare finally make a live action appearance, he certainly has enough power to become a franchise wide threat.  Plus, Ironheart, which was to debut Mephisto, has been shelved indefinitely, so there's an opening for a mystical adversary.

That seems like a lot for Isaac to handle by himself. He should put together a Defenders roster that can approximate the JLAers' abilities and lure Nightmare into a trap. What works against the likes of Superman, Green Lantern, and Wonder Woman would fail against the Silver Surfer, Doctor Strange, and Valkyrie.

@Crazy Ivan: assuming, of course, that Lord Nightmare is working alone and not secretly in cahoots with, say, Dr. Destiny.

@Ross: who would they get to play Lord Nightmare? Robert Englund, perhaps?

This is the city. My partners, the Avengers and I, were working the day watch when the call came in.
It was a 12-28-23, Conflict between multiple Kangs from different timelines and universes. Damage Control would be getting a lot of work and sooner than they expected.
We call it a Waking Nightmare. Our lead, Ross, calls it just another day at work.

@Tobor I wonder if this could be a sequel to this past September's STF #4179?

There have been many suggestions about who could take over as Kang; the ones I like that I've seen include David Oyelowo, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Damson Idris, Wesley Snipes, and (my personal vote) John Boyega. Marvel could even cast multiple actors as different Variants, as has already happened with Loki, Spider-Man, and (soon) Reed Richards.

Also, Ironheart hasn't really been "shelved indefinitely," so much as (according to the show's Wikipedia article, anyway) taken off the schedule after the WGA/SAG-AFTRA strikes until Marvel can get everything together. (I mean, they had to push back every movie but Deadpool 3 until next year!) Since filming wrapped in late '22, it shouldn't take too much more.

That Wikipedia article said nothing about who the main bad guy was going to be, though; but given that her main ally in the show is The Hood, Nightmare is a viable possibility.

And of the performers in "undisclosed roles," the one I'd consider most likely to play Nightmare is Sasha Baron Cohen -- not a bad choice, I think. If not him, then maybe Paul McGann.

Ivan has a good suggestion for a sequel. I'm not sure if there's ever been a JLA/Defenders team-up here (and I'm too lazy at the moment to look it up), but even if there has, his idea would make for a good premise for a return.

@Carycomic, would the JL bring in JL Dark then?

Another great cover! Nicely done.

@Tobor: stands to reason.

Hm. Justice League Dark and the Midnight Sons. That's an interesting thought.

So's Lord Pumpkin vs. The Nocturnals.

@Bob Greenwade: was it you or Tobor who requested the Midnight Sons getting to meet Midnighter and the Man Called Midnight?

Bob Greenwade said...

@Anon@8:54: I'm pretty sure it was Tobor, since I'm not familiar enough with the last one to make the suggestion. I did offer a villain for them to pursue, though: The Evil Midnight bomber What Bombs at Midnight!

@Bob Greenwade: The Man Called Midnight was Quality Comics' version of Will Eisner's Spirit. Basic blue business suit with matching fedora and domino mask. And, even the same initials as the present corporate owner of the former!*

*DC = "Denny Colt" and "Dave Clark," respectively.
