Sandman Vs. The Shadow Thief

The Shadow Thief fascinated me as a kid and remains one of my all-time favorite villains.  He's just so unique - his creepy appearance set him apart as well as his power set.  he even has one of the coolest names around.  I first encountered him in the pages of Justice League of America as part of the Injustice Gang and I always wished he would make more appearances, but he's pretty much been confined to Hawkman stories since then.

Ross, THAT is an AWESOME cover. Concept, layout & feel. I loved the silver age Hawk Couple and how rare they were in so many ways.

Yep! He was definitely more bad-ass as Carl Sands, rather than a personified alter-ego of Carter Hall. That bit of ret-con, on the part of JLU:TAS, was basically a less-than-Marvel-ous rip-off of Onslaught's origin.

...Sandman teams up with Carl SANDS....
i see what you did there, Ross...
pretty sneaky of you....
and oh by the way, another great cover....
you could have called it "Enter Sandmen!" and added some other SAND characters.....

For today's cover, I echo what det_Tobor said. I can find a couple of relative nitpicks that aren't even worth enumerating; overall this is a brilliant cover.

I think the Shadow Thief would be brilliant to see in live action (probably as straight CGI). He could be a villain-of-the-week on The Flash or Doom Patrol, pop up in the Legends of Tomorrow episode during the Crisis on Infinite Earths event (with a one-shot return of the Hawks), or even be an excuse to create a Hawkman series on DC Universe.

As to jackel's suggestion of "Enter Sandmen!", I've been wanting to see Flint Marko actually team up with Wesley Dodds for a while now. They've been on opposite sides once or twice, but since Flint periodically changes what side of the law he's on, they could work together for a time.

Ooo! Spidey meets Hawkman?

It is a bit irritating that writers will come in and mess up previous stories unreforming villains but I guess they believe the previous writers messed it up and they have no concept of creating a villain that will stick around long enough to want to be used by writers later on and maybe show the villain is more than a cardboard cutout.

Which basically makes them "rewriters."

I have to root for Flint Marko here. Call it a battle of Style vs Substance

I'd rather call for Sandman and the Shadow Thief to contend with...Sand Man and The Shadow! Who knows how many of your readers would be delighted at seeing two of the Golden Age's greatest vigilantes take on two of the Silver Age's most underrated super-villains?

I know I would. BWA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA!
