Captain Kirk and The Haunted Tank

"City on the Edge Of Forever", where Kirk and Spock are sent back to Earth in the 1930's to fix the timeline only to have their mission complicated by the love of Edith Keeler (Joan Collins), is one of my favorite Star Trek episodes.  I also quite like Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home where Kirk and the crew travel to the 80's to acquire some whales.  How cool would it be to see Kirk back in the thick of World War II with some of DC's war stars, putting his military knowledge to use?

I'd be in favor of it, Ross. Especially, if it were part of a predestination paradox where Jim was apparently meant to protect one of the tank's newest crew members. An officer-candidate named...Heywood Kirk.*

*Whit Bissell's character on THE TIME TUNNEL. He was a general on that cult-classic TV show (set in 1968). So, he had to start his rise through the military ranks somewhere!

Haunted tank should be shown on legends of tomorrow

In The Time Tunnel in one episode, One of the duo of time-travelers was RELIEVED when a villain in history was not accidentally killed before the time he was to meet that fate.

Twenty years or so ago I had an idea for a Star Trek novel in which they failed to stop McCoy from saving Edith Keeler's life and Kirk, Spock, and McCoy were ALL stuck permanently in the 1930s. Much later, a similar concept, with just McCoy, was used in the novel "Crucible".

Cary's idea is along the lines of what I'm thinking: never mind Kirk's military knowledge; think of his historical knowledge! He could be in a position of, "You need to lose this battle if you're going to win this war!" At least, I'd tend to write it that way -- though adding Heywood Kirk as a wrinkle would certainly be tempting.

(I agree with Harry's idea, too. At some point LoT just has to do something with all of DC's WWII properties, including the Haunted Tank, the Unknown Soldier, and especially Sgt. Rock.)

And I'm still hoping and waiting to see Doctor Who crossed over with Star Trek: Voyager. It would, if nothing else, allow us to see The Doctor meet The Doctor.

I dunno. Does Kirk have much land-based military knowledge? Starfleet does have Marines for ground-pounding, don't they? In the show, if the away mission was facing more than a company or so of opponents they were always getting their butts kicked and trying to figure out how to get back to the ship.

I think Kirk would be more useful in a deep water Navy battle like Guadalcanal or Leyete Gulf. But the Navy doesn't seem to lend itself to many interesting comic-book characters, probably because the action usually doesn't get hands-on.

Sgt. Rock would kill him for insubordination. :)

On the lighter side, maybe have Popeye the Sailor Man go back in time to meet a Spaniard sailor called Papa(with an acute accent on the second "a") the Sailor; poking fun at the Hispanic term for "father". LOL

Maybe a cover with Xena going back in time to save an ancestor: Conan the Barbarian! Conan looks a lot like a male "Xena" when in a Greco-Roman type military "dress".

With Star Trek deemed by Rodenberry to be a space western and Shatner having worked in western movies, I thought of having Kirk paired with western characters like Jonah Hex, Bat Lash, Rawhide Kid, Two Gun Kid, etc. Maybe there is a story beginning in the past, going through time up to the 2200's

Or, how about STAR TREK: TOS meets THE WILD WILD WEST '66 (perhaps with Michael Dunn as both Dr. Loveless and Alexander the Platonian)? I can just imagine Dr. McCoy and Artemus Gordon simultaneously shouting "Jim!!" Causing Kirk and West to turn their heads in unison at the wrong time.

Leading to inopportune knock-outs of both guys!
