Alpha Flight is another team like the Doom Patrol that has gone through many changes and incarnations over the years. Nothing has ever quite been able to capture the magic of the original team that was introduced in Uncanny X-Men for me though - the farther that Marvel strays away from that, the less it has worked for me. Give me the original line-up any day, I loved the first few years of their comic.

I am still kicking myself for not buying the first issue of Alpha Flight when it came out. It was staring at me right in the face from the NYC subway newstand. But I was in the 4th grade, my allowance was tight, and i balked at the $1.50 price tag, so much higher than the 60 cents I was used to paying. Also, I primarily brought DC comics in those days. That, and also not buying G.I.Joe #1, has haunted me to this day!! I know, I know...get over it! lol!
sasquatch vs bigfoot from bionic man
I'd read this miniseries. Love the all-Byrne art!
Ross, I always like your choices, and you make 'em splendid - but this is freakin' GORGEOUS! The composition is so clean and natural that I would have sworn that Mr. Byrne did it himself. The match up of teams - kind of one-offs in their own companies - is an excellent choice. No complaints about THIS one; it's a highlight of your excellent work!
What ELS said. :-)
Thanks, guys - I am happy with the way this one came together as well. I do wish I could have gotten Sasquatch in there, but as I told a commenter on the FB page - He's taking the picture!
Doom Patrol is one of those teams I see on a cover, I instantly take notice. Well done on this All-Byrne cover. Looks great.
And I definitely agree with you Ross. To hell with what Bendis did to them, bring back the originals.
@Ross: by originals, do you mean the pre-Krakoa line-up?
I would never had guessed for a second that this cover was put together later on, if I hadn't already seen the originals.
And as a devoted Doom Patrol fan, And a guy who liked Alpha Flight in the early days, I would HAVE to buy this comic.
M.P.
Do you ever hear from comics professionals about your blog? I know some are active online so they may have seen some of your covers. I just wonder what they think. Do they like it? Any cease and desist letters? Hopefully they realize the importance of fans and that you have true love for their work.
Anon - I mean the line up from the first year of their series.
Answer Man - Yes I have heard from many, all positive reactions so far. Makes me happy to give some enjoyment back to creators that have given me so much.
AF #1 is still out there in the dollar bins, don't give up!
@Anon: Ross was referring to the Alpha Flight line-up introduced in the X-men two parter where they tried to recapture Logan (who the RCAF initially saw as a deserter).
@Carycomic: oh! My bad.
