The Metal Men and Mr. Fantastic

As a kid growing up, I loved the Metal Men.. I'd have to say that Iron was my favorite.  Not only did he look the coolest with the deep shadows that his dark blue coloring gave him, he seemed to be the most well-adjusted member of the team.  The rest all had certain personality traits that could get in their way.  That's not a bad thing though, it helped to differentiate them and made for interesting conflicts.

I just want to know why Gold made a proximity-fused bomb at the end of his arms. Isn't the kablooey of one's own parts kind of an extreme solution? :D

I'm probably wrong. But, that looks like periodic Hulk-foe, the Missing Link, being ridden by the Mole Man. Did ML get Titano vision from a Subterranean vein of green k or something?

I'd say it's more likely one of those Lemurian Deviant-built robots.

I feel like a cameo from H.E.R.B.I.E. would have enhanced this one.

Mr Fantastic seems a natural here with him acting like some of the metal men being very fluid.

@Carycomic: Nah! Looks more like one of those Kryptonian rock robots from STF #1492 (the Darwyn Cooke tribute issue).

The Metal Men are one of those teams which, like the Doom Patrol and the Marvel Family, functioned so well in their time ... and which have resisted any attempt to reboot successfully. Perhaps certain properties are so much of their era that they need to be left alone, because they just don't work well in a more contemporary setting.
