The Green Hornet and The Kingpin

I was sorry to hear of the passing of TV's Green Hornet, Van Williams this week.  It's been a tough few years with the loss of a lot of our childhood heroes, saying goodby to Yvonne Craig and Leonard Nimoy among others. At least through their iconic performances, their memories will live on for a long long time to come.

Make sure to come back tomorrow for the thrilling conclusion!

Leonard Nimoy had a long and distinguished career. Yvonne Craig had a pretty decent career in the '60's... maybe not so much recently. As sad as it is, I think a sudden passing, like James Dean or Phil Hartman, is heartbreaking and devastating. I like how Sean Astin felt about his mother's passing. Sad, but so many people thought highly of her, remembered her and appreciated her talent and work.

RIP, Van Williams!

Met Van Williams once. He was very disappointed in Seth Rogen's movie and declined to participate in it but enjoyed Jay Chou's performance. Imagine how much better it would have been for Brit Reid to discover that his father had been the Green Hornet and taken up his reins.

Tomorrow's comic I hope is Kato and Daredevil.

Oh wow, I didn't know he died. How sad. Yeah 2016 has not been kind to celebrities and musicians alike.
I definitely agree with the late Mr. Williams about that horrible Green Hornet movie. It was pure trash, being treated disrespectfully like a joke. Very messed up.
But he is right on how at least the Kato scenes were good.
I could see this concept with the kingpin happening. Looking forward to part 2.

I am saddened to hear about Van Williams' passing. I did not know about that until I saw this cover. I agree that the film of the Green Hornet was not very good. I would have hoped that they would have kept it somewhat similar to the old TV episodes. I wish someone would take another stab at it. All that said, this is an awesome team-up. I would so read this in a heartbeat.

It was sad losing Van Williams this week. I loved that show as a kid and was amazed to learn, years later, that Kato was Bruce Lee.

This is a great concept. The Kingpin is exactly the sort of criminal the Hornet would go after, though more formidable than any of his own foes. I expect to see the Hornet showing his true colors in the next episode.

The Seth Rogen movie was to the Green Hornet as the Adam West TV series was to Batman, though not nearly as big a cult classic. I never understood why William Dozier claimed that he couldn't take Batman seriously when he didn't have the same problem with the Hornet. Must have been the cape. ;)

A touching tribute, indeed, Ross. Having been born at the tail end of the baby boom, I was initially familiar with the Green Hornet only as a one-season wonder with a great theme song. It wasn't until my college undergrad days that I became better acquainted through the series published by Now Comics (who are Now-defunct).

I especially loved the "Blood Wednesday" story in Issue #1. Never have I despised any other comic book Bad Guy more than Gatlin Tobias!

Unlike several people, I enjoyed the Green Hornet movie, probably because I judegd it on it's merits and not in light of the TV show. Still, I did enjoy Mr Williams' role as Bruce Lee's sidekick.

Today's cover would make a heck of a story. After all, Wilson Fisk is one of the few crime-lord types who actually has the scope and flexibility of intellect to see through the Hornet's scam. I wouldn't put it past the Kingpin to lure the Hornet into an elaborate trap, similar to what he did to Daredevil.

Sorry, MDL: I saw the movie on its own merits. And it had none!

Even the Adam West Bat-series, at its worst, was ten times funnier than Seth Rogen.

Have you read the [2015] Batman'66/Green Hornet crossover, either as individual comics or in the 'trade' collection? It's quite entertaining...

I enjoyed the Batman'66/Green Hornet crossover very much.

As partial consequence of having no in-home media, this post was how I learned of Yvonne Craig's passing. It's sad to know she's gone, just as it is with Van, but in both cases we know they had good, long, full, and happy lives.

Other Bob: What probably made the difference between GH and Bats was that, at the time, Batman in the comics had a somewhat light-hearted tone, a byproduct of the Comics Code.
