Princess Leia and Mr. Spock

I was very sorry to hear of Carrie Fisher's passing yesterday.  She, along with Leonard Nimoy, Robert Vaughan and so many other icons of my childhood that have left us recently will be truly missed.  It's especially sad in Fisher's case, as she was still so young.  I am glad we will get a chance to see her once again in her most famous role.  I was a fan of her comedy chops as well - as a writer and in appearances on 30 Rock and When Harry met Sally.

If you are wondering how such a scene depicted above could take place, it is a direct continuation from STF #1077...

She was a gem in "Under the Rainbow" (1981) with Chevy Case, Billy Barty, and Mako. A favorite...

I am so saddened to hear of the deaths of some of my favorite celebrities in 2016, not just in the Sci-Fi and Fantasy scenes, but in music and other genres as well. None, though, came as quite a shock as Carrie Fisher, probably because of her age.

I like this crossover with U.N.C.L.E., Star Trek and Star Wars. It pays tribute to some of the actors who have now gone on, and it presents what appears to be a cool story.

Thanks, Ross...it's been a tough year on my childhood...Let's hope 2017 is rosier.

This cover is beautiful.

I agree, it's a great cover and interesting story. I share the sadness of losing so many favorites, may we appreciate the ones we still have.

It was approximately six years after RETURN OF THE JEDI had hit movie theaters (with a then-over-inflated admission price to cover the ever-increasing cost of still non-computerized special effects). I was watching Arsenio Hall's then-new talk show, in preference to the much-ballyhooed bickering of Letterman and Leno. Patrick Stewart was on, plugging some project related to STAR TREK: TNG.

And he began talking about a flight back from London, whereon Carrie Fisher had been a fellow passenger!

Apparently, the two of them got to talking about the possibility of doing an on-screen crossover between the two s.f. franchises. With maybe even a romance developing between Princess Leia and Capt. Picard! But, as the Nineties wore on, that possibility began to look increasingly dim. Then, came the prequel trilogy of the early 21st century...which renewed my old fanboyish hope.

Unfortunately, that hope is now forever dashed. My most heartfelt condolences to Debbie Reynolds and Carrie's other next-of-kin. And may the Force be with Carrie, herself. :-(

At my age (55), I've come to expect that each year will bring more deaths among my favorite performers. Carrie Fisher at 60 was a surprise, but not quite a shock (my wife died of a sudden heart attack at age 53, though in her case her system was compromised by diabetes and Turner's syndrome), though of course Leonard Nimoy was quite up there at age 83. (I find it frankly a minor wonder that Dick Van Dyke is still holding on at 91).

All that said, I agree with Mickey's assessment of today's cover. It's a very fitting tribute to these two great stars, and promises a real corker of a story to boot.

@Bob Greenwade: Well, you can add Carrie Fisher's mother to that list. I just learned, five minutes ago, that Debbie Reynolds passed away earlier this afternoon! An apparent stroke; probably brought on by the shock of being predeceased. :-(

Deadshot vs Leia Organa Solo
(In Memory of Carrie Fisher)

Deadshot meets up with two Imperial officers.

Imperial officer 1 (Greetings Mr. Lawton. Thank you for meeting us.)

Deadshot (You're welcome. What's the job?)

A holo-image of Leia was brought up.

Imerpial Officer 2 (This Leia Organa Solo. She is going on a mission to unite two worlds. This collabaration will make the New Republic unstoppable. Her demise will stop the union and cripple the rebellion.)

Deadshot (Consider it done.)

Spaceport

Leia sits in her office talking to her husband. (Kid(s) behaving themselves?)

Han Solo (Yeah but t(he)y miss you. Just as I do.)

Leia (I miss you all too.)

Soldier (Ambassador we have to go.)

Leia sighed (I have to go, give my love to the kid(s).)

Han Solo (I love you. Be careful.)

Leia (I will. Love you too.)

Leia turns holo phone off and starts towards the ship with two guards surrounding her. Deadshot high up aims his rifle at Leia. The ambassador ducks and shoves a guard as a bullet sails through missing everyone. Deadshot hides behind a beam cursing.

Leia (He is up there, behind the beam!)

Deadshot swore again and rushed out firing on the guards, taking out the guards. Leia picks up a rifle from one of the fallen guards and begins to fire back. Deadshot drops the rifle and fires a hook to get on even ground before firing his wrist guns, Leia dodges to right behind a metal arch. Leia drops the rifle and draws a blue lightsaber. Letting the force guide her, Leia uses her blade to repel the bullets before slicing through the assassin's arms.

Leia raising the blade near Deadshots throat. (I don't know who you are, but you came after the wrong woman.)

@Anonymous: Moments later, Deadshot suffers the same fate as Count Dooku in the opening act of SWEp III: ROTS!*

*Or, if you prefer, Marvel Zombie Deadpool. Minus the ability to talk via physics-defying magical reanimation.

Is it jsut me; or does it look like Leia is marching Spock down the aisle at gunpoint, hands tied behind his back?
