Justice Society of America and The Avengers: In Memoriam

Nobody has ever been better at illustrating team comics than George Perez.  His ability to give each character distinct body and facial types is put to great effect, as is his talent at creating densely paneled pages and detailed backgrounds.  These skills allow each member of a large cast to shine and give the whole comic a more cinematic feel.  Could any other artist have pulled off Crisis on Infinite Earths nearly as well as he did, with its cast of hundreds? I think not!

This is probably my favorite yet.

Don't forget JLA/Avengers. Crowds of heroes from both companies and eras and everyone recognizable. Perez was a machine on that series.

Perez is the best. I am a huge fan of his work and he is a really nice guy. He has had a hand in creating so many memorable characters like Cyborg, Starfire, Raven, Deathstroke, Taskmaster and on and on.

When it came to technical wizardry, George Perez was the MASTER. And the only time I remember someone "outdrawing" him, was Jim Aparo, when they did the Batman & The Outsiders/New Teen Titans crossover (classic!). The truth is that DC had few young artistic stars in the 1980s and early '90s (the young bloods were all at Marvel or the independents!), so George Perez was like a super nova of young raw talent. DC had a rep for having quality story tellers, but lots of olde timer artists who were past their prime. It wasn't until the mid 1990s that a new generation of artists started filling the ranks (finally!) and taking over. Ironically, this is when the writing began to suffer (Sigh!).

I miss the JSA. :( The new 52 JSA are different characters. It's not the same.

This is so incredible!

The JSA! I think I enjoyed the eight-issue mini-series and ten-issue series more than anything that came before it or after. Parobeck drew the short-lived series.

The Avengers! Other than The Titans, I don't think Perez has been so closely identified with any other team.

George Perez defined comics in the later part of the Bronze Age, when I started reading The Avengers with #150, then following him over to JLA and then finally New Teen Titans. He is amazing.

I'd so love for this to be an actual imaginary story. Awesome awesome plot, and cool use of the JSA image from when they built their headquarters I believe;)
