The Superman Family and The Fantastic Four

I hope everyone is having a wonderful holiday today close by the ones the love the most.  I truly appreciate everyone who takes the time to check out the blog, it is a labor of love and it has made me happy to see it grow in popularity over the past year.  I especially appreciate those visitors who leave feedback - positive, negative or neutral.  It can be hard to tell what is working or not on here and I am always interested in reading reactions.  Thanks for all the cool suggestions too - and the patience in waiting for me to get around to them.  I have a bunch of reader request covers coming up and I hope they will be worth the wait.  So, stay tuned!  There are hundreds more covers coming and 2013 will see the switch from MS Paint to Photoshop as my cover-creating program, so we're just getting started! Merry Christmas!

Honest to god, I come to your website almost daily and your pics simply make-my-day.

P.S. About half the time, I see one of your covers and I think to myself: "Hey, I'd shell out $7.99 for that issue based on the cover alone..." Which, to my penny pinching comic buying mind, is a major accomplishment. :)

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU !!!

Double P.S. My reader request crossovers (as every post should include this and hey, I am making this post on Christmas day....)

Darth Vader vs Doctor Doom = The force vs gypsy mysticism, future tech vs the 2nd most brilliant mind in the marvel universe, both are disfigured men trapped in their armor....

Star Trek vs Aliens vs Predators
(the skulking black Gieger monstrosities crawling around in the jeffries tubes, Kirk repeating his battle against the Gorn, only this time against a Predator, Spock trying to mind-meld with an Alien Queen, numerous redshirts with facehuggers....)

Thanks, Michael! If you check the archives, you'll see there is already a Vader/Galactus cover (a story that will have future ramifications in a couple of upcoming STF issues).

Merry Christmas, Ross!....and since you asked: The Boondocks vs. Bloom County or Doonesbury! Or any character from The Boomdocks (Huey, Riley, Grandpa)teamed up with any heroe. Also, as many African-American superheroes that you could fit onto a cover ;o)

You can tell that Bryan Hitch is British. Those Christmas crackers certainly didn't appear in the Norman Rockwell original and my American memories of them were as birthday party favors. I don't think most folks on this side of the pond associate them with Christmas.

Also, the FF portion of that cover came out too late (actually two months later than Marvel intended; FF fans wound up reading a Christmas story at the end of February) to be included in the following:

So, while not this isn't a rarely used idea you should take comfort in the fact that you've blended the images more seamlessly than most of the examples given, excluding the ones drawn from scratch.

Oh, and my vote is for Huey Freeman to meet DC's Anarky.

Oh, and a side note to Windowz: Doonesbury has a bit of a history at Marvel. Rick Redfern and Joanie Caucus made a cameo in the "Days Of Future Past" story in Uncanny X-Men #142 and Uncle Duke appeared in a few issues of Iron Man somewhere between '79-'82. I think I may have seen Zonker or B.D. since then, but I can't remember where.

Merry Christmas, my friend. Even though I've never left feedback before, I visit your blog every day and never fail to be impressed. Your ideas are wonderful, and usually much more interesting than what the current industry gives us.

Definitely some Bloom County characters slated to appear... hadn't considered Boondocks or Doonesbury characters yet but now yo guys have me thinking...

Bloom County slated to appear but no Doonesbury? Really?? That would be like including Wee Pals in a cover but not the Peanuts gang. Since Bloom County characters are gonna show up, I hope you do Opus vs. The Penguin ( I know Puffins aren't Penguins, but who cares, we Americans don't pay attention to details anymore.) Whatever you do, make it good, like you always do. By the way, give Ben Grimm that knife.... it's Carvin' time!

pblfsda has reminded us that Uncle Duke from Doonesbury might be the greatest villain of all to grace this blog!!! Ross, you have to make this happen!!!

Actually, the ideal foil for Uncle Duke would be the second-most famous fictional Hunter S. Thompson avatar, Col. Hunter Gathers from the Venture Brothers cartoon. It would have to be easier to splice them into a scene together than with a Ralph Steadman cartoon.

I'm gonna have to brush up on Doonesbury, I found it political and boring back in the day so it wasn't a strip I followed that closely.

I just did a Boondocks related cover today though...

Here it is 6 years later and not one poster commented on THIS cover. You do realize there's a sexual innuendo just waiting in the wings when there's a Christmas turkey being served right next to Power Girl's infamous breast (in full cleavage, no less. A missed opportunity for a thought balloon...

Thought balloons would be superfluous, Wildcat (especially, next to Power Girl's).

Makes me wonder if Ben Grimm is smiling at the turkey...or the dumplings. ;-D
