One of the main things that makes me resist diving back into the X-Universe is how many titles it has spun off into. There are just so many variations on the theme that I feel it dilutes the brand and makes it that much harder to get into. It wasn't always this way though, and there was a time when a separate X-Men related title or mini series was something to get excited about. Excalibur was a fun title for me in that it connected the X-Men to Captain Britain, a character I had liked and hoped to see more of. Add on top of that the gorgeous artwork of Alan Davis and you had a nice package.

Excalibur was one of my favorite titles. It broke my heart when Alan Davis left, and marvel turned it into a cookie-cutter clone of all the other mutant titles.
Alan Davis took over Batman and the Outsiders when Jim Aparo began wrking exclusively on the Deluxe format THE OUTSIDERS. At that time, I was a kid with NO ACCESS to a specialty comic shop, so I was LIVID that I wouldn't see Aparo's artwork anymore, and who the hell was this Alan Davis guy?
OMG, I had never so quickly fallen for with a new artist. Alan Davis was awesome, and I began to prefer HIS Looker and Black Lightning.

I stopped reading New Teen Titans after Perez left, because I just couldn't adjust to Jose Luis Garcia Lopez or Tom Grummet. I loved their work everywhere ELSE - mostly Grummet on Robin and Superboy.
Alan Davis is AWESOME. From his ClanDestine and Justice League: The Nail to Batman and The Outsiders.
I really think there are too many books. Some stories or concepts really could be an arc or a mini-series.
That run of Excalibur remains one of my favorite comic series ever. I love the mash-up. Thanks!
