Hawkwoman and Wasp

Hawkgirl was the only character that didn't really work for me in the new Superman movie.  I didn't mind Isabela Merced in the role, but she just seemed like a normal girl with wings, rather than a reincarnated warrior with ties to an alien culture.  Perhaps the character herself is not aware of her origins yet, and that side will be explored in future appearances.  Also, wasn't the movie supposed to be about Superman inspiring his fellow heroes?  She didn't seem very inspired when she straight up murdered one of the bad guys, and I thought that moment undermined the theme of the film.

Maybe she was supposed to be an anti-heroine inspired by super-patriots like Jon Cena's version of the Peacemaker. Sort of a...snapping turtledove?

Either way; my compliments on the melded image of the Wasp. If I recall correctly, that's from the original Kree/Skrull War story arc in AVENGERS during the very early 1970's!

Oh, so we're going to talk about the Superman movie and those characters. OK, and I really really loved it, but I have one ginormous bone to pick. So I'm going to rant here, because I know I'm among fellow superhero geeks. If you have another take on this, I'm willing to listen, but I am just very upset about what they did with Mr. Terrific...and it's especially because they did so many things right with him,

OK, so if you haven't seen the Superman movie, you don't want to read the following. This is my take on it.
I saw the Superman movie, and really enjoyed it. I think they got the character down really well. I think the very specific version of the character they were trying to present came across accurately. (Just to give you my bona fides, I've been reading comics for about 65 years, so I'm familiar with the character, the many incarnations of the character, the many variations on the character's parents. And the various super pets and the cousin. And the friends and his colleagues in the Justice League. Not the Justice Gang, there never was Justice Gang.)

I was glad finally to see Mr. Terrific hit the screen and some amazing things about that character: they had the look down spot on, they had his power set and his powers and his technology completely accurate, the T-spheres were everything I would have wished they were, just like the comic AND they even give him an upgrade with a vehicle...kind of a chair a la Metron and just really really happy...

... except for the following...

First of all, Michael Holt is one of the most intelligent characters in the DC universe. His IQ and accomplishments probably outstrip those even of Bruce Wayne. His use of technology, his approach to problem solving, his taking on the mantle of the original Mr. Terrific and Fair Play and thinking things through...He's just a Really Great character and I'm glad that the character of Michael Holt exists.

Michael Holt is not from the hood.
He does not sound like he's from the hood.
He does not speak like he's from the hood.
He's not a variation on the original Luke Cage.
Geez even Franklin Pierce, even Black Lightning, didn't have those characteristics but Mr. Terrific??!
mmm yeah trash-talking tough guy hmm not at all

quiet
contemplative
introspective
...yeah that's Mr. Terrific.
Not this character. But you know, hey at least they had him smart.

What he especially is NOT is cruel and clumsy. So when they're fighting a giant Kaiju monster, the result of some xenobiological Construct put together and developed as a weapon by Lex, and they're fighting that and Superman EXPLICITLY requests that they take the giant monster away from all the people so that everyone is safe and that they can study it, what Mr. Terrific would NOT have done is told his colleagues to blind the thing, and then he would not have dropped some bombs down its throat to blow up its organs and kill it. Michael Holt is intelligent and introspective and would have taken it as a POINT OF PRIDE (really his one big character flaw!) to come up with a solution to deliver the creature far away and safely so that it could be studied...precisely how Superman asked him to do. Michael Holt is not careless. He's not clumsy and he's not cruel.
