Sword of the Atom was quite a departure from Ray Palmer's usual science-based adventures, but I got a kick out of the change of pace. It didn't hurt that it was illustrated by legendary Atom artist Gil Kane. Those stories are still fun to revisit.

Yeah, that was a refreshingly different take on the character. Too bad they had to bring him back as part of a story arc that would've been more plausible in a SHIELD mini-series from Marvel!
I can't help wondering if the snake belongs to Princess Python. If so, this story could just as well be occurring in the Florida Everglades near the Nexus of All Realities. Meaning that this Princess Laethwen could be the same one from mainstream DCU. But, having survived the CIA's Operation: Fireball via mystical teleportation to the Ross-verse!
If my memory isn't leading me astray, the first version of DC's Who's Who came out while that was the Atom's status quo, so his entry has him in his Swords & Sorcery garb (or, I guess, it was really more like Sword & Planet, even though it took place on Earth).
