Despero's deadly return in the pages of Justice League America was a shock to read, given his new, more brutal depiction juxtaposed against the League's bwa-ha-ha era. Even his fin seemed to have changed position on his head, coming straight for you instead of side to side as it was in the Silver Age. A showdown with the Savage Dragon was destined to heppen.

I always considered Despero's post-Silver Age mutation as Darth Vader-meets-the Abomination. Just the usual thinly-disguised pastiching that most real-world comic publishers still engage in to this day. But, with today's cover-sim, we get a depiction that I've been waiting to see since I first learned about the Savage Dragon from the (sadly) short-lived animated series back in the Nineties.
I'm just wondering if Dragon will be charging Despero with impersonating an officer?
For some reason, I want Despero to reply with, "Narf!"
That thing with Savage Dragon and Despero having fins as a justification of their sharing a cover together makes me think; maybe Carson Napier could meet the Herculoids. It could be called “From Amtor (Venus) to Amzot”.
I prefer the side to side fin since it differentiated him from all the other finned characters (like Dragon), but the front to back mohawk-style fin was introduced by Luke McDonnell in the JL Detroit era.
So having them pair up against Fin-Fang-Foom is unlikely??
I agree; that would be interesting. Except for the fact that most of today's Millenials would probably think to themselves: "Carson Napier? Didn't his grandfather play Alfred the Butler on the old Bat-series?"
Talking of perhaps-unlikely pairings, how about a case of mistaken identity leading to an investigative team-up between Kolchak ('the Night Stalker') and Kojak? or Kojak's catch-phrase "Who loves ya baby?" originating when he handles a case involving the Toon known as Baby Herman?
Or, if suitable artwork can be found, Shaft (Did he ever appear in a comic?) and the Detroit-Era JLA's ally Dale Gunn? ("Who's the black engineer who's a sex machine to all the super-chicks? Gunn! You're damn right...")
Not unless they're willing to get butt-whupped by the rest of FFF's teammates from The Darned!
I'd favor the first suggestion. Provided Kojak and Kolchak teamed up against the Tony Randall version of Medusa (from THE 7 FACES OF DR. LAO)! I can just see the title now:
"Hair-Raising Horror In Harlem!"
Guest-starring Ben Affleck as Daredevil?*
*Face it; he'd be the only one who stood a chance against "her" petrifying gaze
Are you kidding? Dark Phoenix could wipe the floor with both the Dragon and Despero all by her lonesome!
Don't forget Mirror Master!!
Which one; Len Scudder or his Glaswegian successor?
The Scottish Lowlander would be my preference. At least, as a member of the Suicide Squad, he's fought bigger bad guys as an anti-hero.---Cary
