I know what you mean, Ross. That's why I shamelessly (and with unapologetic sincerity) refer to that second reboot as "The Wrath of Ret-Con!"
With regard to this morning's cover? I palm-slap my forehead for never thinking to suggest it, myself! Although, one has to wonder--with all their own recent rebooting--why DC never chose to answer why the red-and-blue Golden Age Manhunter changed his name to "Paul Kirk" from...Rick Nelson.
As I understand it, the original Paul Kirk was a relatively normal missing persons detective. Which is to say, his cases apparently never involved exotically costumed criminals with weird motifs!

So, I think it would greatly behoove DC to do a retroactive tale explaining this long-standing (and long-overdue-for-solving) mystery.
Maybe a cover could have Astro (and the Jetsons) trying to rescue Astro's ancestor Scooby-Doo from being neutered before siring a puppy.
It's the reason talks broke --these S.T. movies hit a ceiling, while Star Wars usually does GOOD at the box office. They wanted to reduce the contracted salaries INSTEAD of doing a better job writing! Let's hear it for executive "THINKING"!! >yea¡¿< 🗿
What it has boiled down to, due to various deals and arrangements, is that there are now two competing Star Trek franchises, the Original and the Kelvin timelines, with different owners and stakeholders. The Original isn't going away, and with Discovery seems to be getting its third wind, and the Kelvin products (especially the merchandising) keep getting diminishing returns.
It's something you see fairly often in the music business, where a band breaks up and two or more of the original members both want to keep the band name and catalog, it ends up in court, and both spin-off bands end up more or less as just another "tribute" band. I wouldn't be surprised if Trek doesn't eventually end up it court.
Your really getting a kick out of this crossover family thing huh how about a team up between shaggy rogers and his great uncle steve rogers
Personally I feel voyager could use a reboot.
I like that the new Star Trek has been more action driven. Leonard Nimoy should have been done with the first Trek film. They kept bringing him back, which just felt unnecessary. The Khan story was just as unnecessary. But that's my opinion. Your mileage may vary. I've watched Star Trek Beyond a couple times and got lost about half-way through both times...Maybe if I tried a third time... ;)
I got lost after the introduction of lobster-red lizard Klingons...and the untimely death of the actor who played the new Ensign Chekov.
I would LIVE to see the Kate Spencer Manhunter shut down Kirk's Lothario act!
Kirk, himself, would probably say: "Who's acting?"
You forgot Mother Kirk from "Pilgrims Regress" - C.S Lewis (Clive Staples Lewis aka Jack to his friends)
I never knew Jack about Lewis till I read THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA.
P.S.---how about the author of those chronicles having to aid Superman's alter-ego against the Queen of Fables? Ross could entitle it... "Lewis and Clark!"
