Zatanna and Hellboy

The first trailer for the rebooted Hellboy film has been released and it looks to me like a step down from the Guilllermo del Toro-directed movies.  The make up on David Harbour seems kind of sloppy and the actor comes off as uncomfortable in it.  We were promised that this would be a "darker take" on the character, but you can't tell it from the sitcom-like tone of the trailer.  The first two movies weren't perfect, but I would have much preferred that trilogy be completed than what we are seeing here.

On the upside, Fox just telecast the final season opener for GOTHAM...and they are off to an intense start. *Spoilers ahead.*

There was even some creepy nurse running around, whispering about witches! Could she be referring to A) Zatanna B) Madame Xanadu or C) Sondra Kinsolving?

Phone lines are now open. Let the rampant speculation commence!

I agree with your take on the new Hellboy trailer being sit-com like. I'm still hopeful (if you cut the Mony Mony soundtrack it would be 1000x better).

If not the modern one, in a sequel to STF #295, then the Golden Age boomerang-thrower.

I wanted a Hellboy movie with Lobster Johnson

@TMIB: Lobster was too busy making a person appearance...in Melted Butter Creek, Oregon.

Not to be confused with Fondue Lac, Wisconsin ("The Melted Cheese Capital of the World!").

Cool cover, Ross! It's a situation I would've expected to find John Constantine in over Zatanna Zatara, but this works nonetheless. And, after checking, I was a little surprised to find that John hasn't yet run across Hellboy; that really ought to be remedied (maybe around the time the latter's new movie comes out, unless you decide to make a commentary on Legends of Tomorrow.)

@Anon: This Oregonian has never heard of that place. You just made it up, didn't you?

Anon1: The only major cast member who didn't get even a mention in the Gotham episode is Doctor Lee, last seen being taken by Hugo Strange. Since we know from the "what to expect" publicity that Selina eventually gets a makeover from Strange, and I'm sure that somebody (Penguin, Riddler, Barbara, etc.) has called Lee a "witch" (although maybe with a B) at least once in the series, I'm betting her new self is working for/with Hugo.

Other than Bane and Harley, I doubt there will be anymore new faces in Gotham -- they don't have enough screen time left for everyone as it is.

@Bob: I half-made it up. According to Wikipedia, there's a stream called Butter Creek near Hermiston, Oregon, in Umatilla County.

P.S. (@JJ): you mean, Leslie Tompkins? I hadn't considered that. But, I sure hope not. His Monster Men are bad enough. Turning her into a Monster Woman would be utterly intolerable!

@Anonymous 1 Or it could be none of them and it is the Witch from 1998's Batman: Arkham Asylum - Tales of Madness comic.

If not Zee, I'm hoping it'll be June Moone. Alias The (pre-Suicide Squad) Enchantress!

Have Zatanna and Mandrake the Magician ever met up?

Carycomic said...

Nope! But, they might be able to if, in addition to his Greenwich Village town house, Mandrake also owns a "modest summer place" on Long Island called...Shadow Crest.
