Superman and Spider-Man (The Movie!)

Needless to say, the first official Superman/Spider-Man crossover had a huge impact on me, beginning a love for impossible team-ups that eventually led to this very blog.  The only thing that could have made it cooler to me is if there had been a live-action film adaptation!

These two have had two previous STF adventures... once when they were undergoing an identity crisis... and once when they decided to have a car fight.

Awesome! I love that original crossover, too. I was very lucky to find it at a yard sale as a kid; the magic of the intercompany meetup seemed so obvious that I wondered why there weren't more of them...!

Nice homage, Ross! :-)

I still get a kick out of reading the digest reprint of the first two Superman/Spidey team-ups. But you're right. A silver screen version with these two actors (one, deservedly iconic; the other, too often underrated) would have been legendary.

I remember the first crossover that I saw of these two. It was the one in which they fought Parasite and Dr. Doom. I did not know until later that they had been in another team up before. Since then, I have loved crossovers. As much as I loved the JLA/JSA team ups, I could never get enough of the DC/Marvel team ups. Both Superman/Spiderman stories are good, and I loved the DC vs. Marvel series of the late 1990s. Of course I am very partial to the Avengers/JLA, given that those were my favorite titles from the two publications.

I like seeing the crossovers here that involve the actual actors, such as this cover today. I have often thought how cool it would be, if they were all able to fit on a page, to have a whole team of these characters in a cover like this. Imagine from the movies and/or TV shows: Spiderman, Green Hornet & Kato, Batman & Robin, Flash, Hulk, Wonder Woman, Green Arrow, etc.

Another that I thought of that I may or may not have said here before would be to have Steve McGarrett (Jack Lord) and Captain Kirk (William Shatner) because I have heard it said that Lord was the original choice to play Kirk. I wonder, had he done so, if Shatner would have played Steve McGarrett. I personally doubt it, but who knows?

Thank you, Ross!

Any chance of somewhere down the line more Ferrigno Hulk?

I do like the Ferrigno Hulk, so yes.

@ You could do that as a sequel! Christopher Reeve vs. Lou Ferrigno and Nicholas Hammond vs. Lynda Carter (mirroring the actual cover illustration of the classic second team-up).

I will never forget seeing the ad for the first Superman/Spider-Man crossover in some random comic book. I immediately went to my mom and BEGGED her to order this comic through the mail for one of my Christmas presents. In those days before comic book stores I just could NOT take the chance of missing this one.... And I have to say that it lived up to all of my expectations.

And by the way, I second Anonymous's request for a Reeve/Ferringo, Hammond/Carter follow-up to this cover.

I love the idea of Yul Brynner and Michael Ironside as the villains. Both are amazing actors.

You can already find a Reeve/Ferrigno cover on the blog at least.

But, as a homage/duplication of the original DC Treasury Edition cover? I don't think so.

@Sonofjack The first time decided i had to special pre-order a comic book was the Frank Miller Dark Knight mini-series. I also had go rely on my local cards & gifts candy shop for my comics and the risk was too high. Well it turned out many people special ordered the Dark Knight that summer and my issues arrived late, third edition printed! But i recieved multiple free copies of all the issues as compensation, so that was cool. 25 years later i cashed them all in for total $300.00. True story.

Michael Ironside is one of my favorite actors. As I've been binge-watching Smallville for the first time, I just saw him as General Sam Lane, and before that I caught his turn on Stargate: SG-1. When he was young enough, I think he would have been a brilliant Doctor Octopus. Great casting, Ross!
