The Punisher Vs. Changeling

Continued from yesterday's cover, we see that Frank Castle may have underestimated the Titans' youngest member.  I always liked Changeling (a name I far prefer to Beast Boy) even though his origin and how his powers work don't make a lot of sense to me.  These days it seems like every super-team has a character with a Garfield Logan-type of personality, but back when New Teen Titans first hit, he had a pretty unique voice.

Once again, Terra dies. But Garf's gonna at least give Frank his fair karma.

Way to go, Ross! This reminds me of the NTT issue where Gar was being treated for some kind of life-threatening injury on Paradise Island. And, he became so delirious with pain, he ran amok. Changing into emerald-green things right out of Lovecraft!

That was a great issue.

I'm thinking Beast Boy was more identifiable that Changeling, which is why he was reverted back to it so quickly after the initial Wolfman-Perez run. Maybe a copyright issue? I guess if we're talking legacy characters and sidekicks, Beast Boy makes better sense as far as branding. But none of that has anything to do with great stories. Gar has been a very unique character. Aside from Speedy, like a 6th Beatle...

I like what he said in early New Teen Titans - Changeling has pizzaz! No reason why he could not use both.

Maybe Wolfman and Perez also thought "Changeling" would avoid confusion with the 30th century superhero of the same name from planet Llorn.

@ Anon.---I think you mean "Lallor."

Crossover Ross! Unfortunately, it was taken from a cover of when Titans were beginning to rapidly decline in terms of storylines and artwork. This was right after the aftermath of the Terra saga, and it seemed as if Marv Wolfman had finally run out of steam. I remember feeling as if the title had "jumped the shark" (along with many others that summer) and I no longer brought every issue that came out anymore. Sigh. Bittersweet memories indeed.
