I was saddened to learn that Mike Road (the original voice of "Race" Bannon) had passed away, not too long ago. But, he had reached age 95, God bless him! So, at least, he lived to see the original show reach cult-classic status.
Some of the stories, like the obsessed WWI German ace, are obviously too out-of-date to be remade for TV. But, so much more was almost prophetic! Those view-coms, for instance? Possible inspiration for the cellular videophone. And, the para-power gun that destroyed Dr. Zin's robot spider? Weaponized EMP!
Maybe the new line of comics can dramatize a crossover between these H-B icons. Like, say, Dr. Quest inventing a wormhole-generating device that inadvertently brings the Herculoids to Earth.*
*I used to fantasize about a mistaken identity battle between them and the soldiers who took on the robot spider.
I am also very excited about the upcoming Future Quest title. I was hoping to see some of the old H-B superheroes show up in Scooby Doo Team-Up, but this looks like it might be even better. I'm confident that Jeff Parker can bring the heroes into modern times without losing too much of what made them such fun characters to begin with. I'm particularly excited to see the return of Frankenstein, Jr. and The Impossibles. Now if Jeff can only find a place for Inch High Private Eye . . . .
I would be interested in the "Hypontized Henchmen"! The Jonny Quest and others were some of my first action/adventure cartoons. Without any idea of origins, powers, etc these characters and their adventures kept me hanging on to see them through! Jeff Parker has done well with Batman '66 keeping the fun of the original, I think he is able to keep the magic in these classics as well.
I've got mixed feelings. I love the idea that Space Ghost, the Herculoids, Mightor, etc are coming back and can totally see them existing in a shared universe.
I'm especially excited about Jonny Quest which was an amazing show and, in many ways, still holds up.
But I'm anxious about putting JQ in the same world as the others. JQ's world is much more grounded, without aliens or super-powered beings. IMO, it works better that way.
My tendency would be to put Space Ghost, Herculoids, Shazzan, Young Samson, Birdman, and a few others in one universe and Jonny Quest, Jana of the Jungle, Dino-boy, etc in another.
Though Wolverine and JQ works for me :)
Doesn't this open a whole team of possibilities: Roadrunner and the Flash, Elongated Man and Inspector Gadget, The Atom and the Smurfs, Huckleberry Hound and the Changeling. Well maybe that last one of going a bit far.

Would that really be going much further than Changeling working with 'Captain Carrot & his amazing Zoo Crew', which is actually DC canon?
