Hellboy and Captain America

This was a pairing that I had not initially thought about, but got a few requests for in the comments sections.  The more I considered it, the more I liked the idea of a story featuring Cap and Hellboy together.  It could feature a curse from WWII being revived in the present day and feature scenes from both time frames.  Of course having a master like Mike Mignola tell the story would only make it even cooler.

Awesome!
I have to back and re-read the Batman/Hellboy/Starman team-up - now that was unusual!

Has anyone teamed Captain America and Wolverine during World War II?

Wow, now this really is an inspired pairing, especially if Mignola's writing and drawing this one. So many things to include, Baron Blood, Hydra, Nick Fury and his Hollowing Commandos making a cameo, just all sorts of supernatural awesome could be seen in this one. Hell the next one should be a Lobster Johnson and Captain America team-up. Seems even more of a natural pairing than Hellboy possibly.

Yes AirDave, Cap and Wolverine have been paired in WW II in the Marvel Universe several times. The first was Uncanny X-Men #268 where they rescue a young Black Widow.

@Air Dave: there was a ret-con flashback story Marvel did (in the late Nineties/early Two-thousands) where a still-scrawny Steve Rogers was targeted for assassination on the day he was supposed to report for the final phase of Operation: Rebirth. And, a still adamantium-free Logan was his bodyguard!

Actually, Anon, you're only half-right. The bodyguard in the flashback was Dominic Fortune!

I would love to see the two of them go up against a Sixth Sleeper robot! :-)

I haven't seen any of the Hellboy comics or films so is the "red devil guy" in the background supposed to be Mephisto from the Marvel universe or someone from the Hellboy universe?

Ross said...

Mephisto, as the labels indicate.

@Simreeve: I was referring to the basis for an actual team-up between Cap and Hellboy (lol!).

Off topic a bit, but have you thought of teaming Doc Savage with Vandal Savage?

Carycomic said...

Yeah, how about that? I mean, even Dynamite Entertainment was kind of hinting for such a crossover, when they debuted their JUSTICE, INC. mini-series, this past year. Either the Shadow or the Avenger asked Doc about his ancestor. And, Doc replies:

"He was a real Vandal."

Thanks for reminding me about the labels down below Ross.

I kind of gave up on them as the years progressed.

Several villains like Grax (on your Spider Friends/Super Friends cover) aren't listed even though he appeared in at least 6 issues that I'm aware of.

Also on many of your team covers, all the members aren't listed (like your recent Defenders, LOSH & Avengers on the Planet Of The Apes covers.)

I see that you can make the labels go longer on your 100 issues specials that you do so I'm curious why more characters aren't listed in the labels down below.

For instance,it looked to me that Ant-Man & Cap could've fit on the "Planet Of The Apes" cover label.

Any reason for the varied label lengths?

Can you go back and add characters to them later or are they "carved in stone forever"?

On team covers, I generally list the more prominently displayed characters. With obscure characters like Grax who are not likely to appear again I don't feel the need for a label (unless that status changes). There's no way I am going back and editing 1900+ posts so the labels will stay as is unless I notice a glaring error somewhere. There's no way to make the labels go longer, blogger gives a set amount of characters.

@ Cary Comic - Really? That's Cool. Unofficial comic crossovers for the win! @ Ross - Who knows? Maybe Grax will show up on Supergirl (along with Brainiac 5 & Black Lightning, The Guardian, Rose & The Thorn. I hope I hope I hope!

Speaking of WWII team-ups, I'd love to see a WWII era JSA fighting against (and a follow up with) the Invaders !

I can see Adolf Hitler controlling the giant robot already.... :)

There are a couple of JSA/Invaders covers on here already.
