The path is finally clear for Marvel to get the rights to most of the rest of their characters for cinematic adaptations. While most are excited about the possibilities it brings for including The X-men and Fantastic Four in their films, I am also glad that it finally frees up one of the greatest Avengers foes of all - Kang! I am guessing, due to the presence of Doctor Strange's (possibly tampered with?) time stone and the events of Ant-Man and The Wasp's mid-credits scene, that time jumping will be an aspect of the next Avengers movie - hopefully that doesn't mean Kang will be off the table for a while even though the rights issues have been sorted out.

Are Atom and Doc Mid-Nite flying?
It looks like Hawkman is carrying Doc Mid-Nite, and that the Atom and Black Canary are prone on the ground. Comics from that era didn't always do the best job with perspective.
As for the commentary, next month in What If? : What if Walt Disney destroyed the Marvel Comics universe?
'Cause that's what's happenin', friends. Who needs Galactus and Kang and Thanos when there's a perfectly willing Disney to do the deed?
Maybe a crossover of Disney's "The Princess and the Frog" and Fox's "Anastasia" could have a cover; the two main villains (Dr. Facilier and Rasputin) are not only dabblers in the dark arts, they are also both early 20th century characters!

Has Kang ever faced Thanos in the comics? I can see Kang staying out of Thanos' way if at all possible, but it would be an interestingly epic battle.

Ross, is the JSA from an interior page? There weren't that many issues of All-Star after Hawkman switched to the plain yellow cowl, and none of the those covers had these poses. I'm guessing there was a giant (golden robot?) or flying villian they were all reaching toward which you replaced with Kang and his force field pillow chair.
This post-war group was probably my favorite Golden Age JSA lineup. Flash and GL are back after their "honorary" stints, Canary has replaced Johnny Thunder, Atom is finally wearing a real costume, and Dr. Mid-nite was always cool.
And while Irwin Hanson had some awfully stiff figures, his art could sure tell a story!

I think that the earliest of Kang's appearances (according to our timeline, if not his...) that I read at the time was the one featuring the Grandmaster that introduced not only the Squadron Sinister but also -- although not naming their team then -- the Invaders as well. Fun!
(And then there was the memorable line, from a Kang/Hulk story, "And since 1917 will always be 1917...")
Talking of the JSA and time-travelers, the revived JSA had an encounter [published in] the late '90s or very early 21st century with a would-be conqueror from the future who went by the name of 'Black Barak': Do you suppose he subsequently (in his personal timeline, although "previously" for both the JSA & the readers...) managed to re-write history so that he was able to win election as POTUS just a few years later on?

I will be glad when Marvel is able to use Fantastic Four and X-MEN characters in the movies, but I'm afraid by the time they show up Tony Stark, Steve Rogers, and some of the other classic characters will be gone. I want to see all of the characters in an adaptation of the original Secret Wars series.
That's racist. But DC Comics already showed us what happens when an evil white billionaire gets elected president. Now we need Superman to come save us.

@Bob Buethe: I think the Golden Age Atom is using his "atomically strong" legs to leap upward. Similar to how the Golden Age Superman was initially only capable of long-distance leaping (a la the Incredible Hulk) due to Earth's lighter-than-Krypton gravity.
P.S.---re: today's cover? I think the only way Kang could prevent the JSA from forming in the first place is to prevent the rise of the Axis Powers! No World War II, no rallying of those opposed to dictatorial conquest. Right?
When the Marvel movies get to use Fantastic Four it would be interesting to have them debut in the 1960s, but do to Dr Doom or Kang they were deleted from the timeline. Now they finally reappear straight out of the 1960s. If the supporting cast needs to be transplanted just say everyone was in the Baxter Building and all got deleted from the timeline.
This would be an interesting fight - Green Lantern's ring, Flash's speed, Wonder Woman's abilities (much less than her daughter's) and Atom's atomic punch (if he got it yet). I cannot see Midnight, Hawkman and Canary affecting it much and be more of a risk with Kang unless he was summoned subordinates.
@Saxum-El: If Cap's kooky quartet could beat Kang without some heavy hitters on the team. then this incarnation of the JSA should have no trouble kicking Kang's as well.
