I'm not familiar with why the other three are mute, but I always felt a 'mute' character in a silent medium like comic books considerably hinders the character if this is all the writer does with him or her.
Black Bolt was just all-knowing, but we never quite knew WHAT he knew.
Another character was Jericho, the horrendous Joseph Wilson in The New Teen Titans, who was just so pacifist and good-hearted, he had zero appeal and was finally totally trashed in the end.
What about Death Adder in the new Serpent Squad? I only really saw him in his first appearance in Marvel Two In One, but I surmised he too was a mute character.
And the Silent Knight wasn't _always_ quiet. He always talked to his horse and falcon, out loud, when in private.

Tho silent in the cartoons, in comic books, the Road Runner and Wile E. Coyote, as well as Tom and Jerry, would have endless dialogue in the comic books, same for the Pink Panther, but I believe Droopy would have silent comic book appearances, tho he would speak in the cartoons.
What about Silent Bob? I'll bet there are some cartoon versions of him somewhere.
While not quite silent, Kevin Smith also created an onomatopoeia character in his Green Arrow run -- he spoke only in sound effects, like "snikt" or "whoosh." He tried to kill Connor Hawke, and later came back and tried to get Batman.

If this team was in a real comic, I'd expect to see at least a cameo from Harpo Marx, and/or Teller. :)
Bob, or Marcel Marceau, who had the only speaking part in Mel Brooks' Silent Movie (he said "Non", i.e. No)

For the longest time, I sang, "hush, hush! Even downtown, voices carry."
That's nothing. My mother used to love singing along to that Doobie Brothers hit "What A Fool Believes." But, when she came to the part about "The wise man has the power...?"
Her version went "Pow-pow-pow-pow-power."

Itchy and Scratchy's comic book appearances have been without dialogue, as well as their cartoon scenes, tho they have spoken on some occasions, it's generally been that very recognizable clichéd Simpsons voice.
Perhaps they could have added "Deadpool" to get the conversation started or at least to tell him to shut up.

I almost included Marcel, though for a comic book cameo his appearance as a mime would seem too generic -- unfortunately so, given how legendary the man was.
I've been puzzling since yesterday over who the additional silent teammate would be. Jericho? The Silent Majority? (Old Outsiders villain.) Man-Thing? I guess we'll just have to wait to see.
How about Killjoy from Charlton Comics? He never spoke a syllable, either? Just punched out the Bad Guys while wearing the ancient Greek mask of comedy.

The Silver Knight's Silver Age origin had him keeping mum, during fights with his enemies, because he was no expert at disguising his voice (unlike, say, a certain Dark Knight of modern Gotham City).
Batgirl Cassandra Cain was _deliberately_ never taught to speak by her hit man father because he wanted her to be an expert at reading body language. Which, though I hate to admit it, was fiendishly brilliant of him (from a hand-to-hand combat standpoint). And it's only because of some genetically engineered telepath that her brain became unscrambled enough to learn how to talk. Even if only with the greatest difficulty!
And Snake Eyes, in the Marvel version of GI JOE, was a Vietnam War veteran who was merely soft-spoken. Up until the jonin of the Storm Shadow Clan was assassinated by Zartan of Cobra Command! I think it was an arrow to the throat (from the latter's compound bow) that led to complete muteness.
i don't wanna hear a peep out of anyone....lol
