Dick Tracy and Green Arrow & Speedy

Chester Gould wrote and drew the Dick Tracy strip from the 30's to the 70's, and I imagine that kept him busy.  Still, it's a shame we never really saw him cross over and do any work for other comic book companies. How cool would it have been to see his take on characters like Green Arrow, Batman or Spider-Man - not to mention their rogues galleries?

  1. It would definitely be interesting in Spider-man's case. Since both characters had enemies nicknamed the Chameleon due to their quick-change mastery of disguise. In fact, I'll wager that the real traitor in the police department is Dick Tracy's Chameleon (upping his game from jewel theft)!

  2. Cool set up Ross! It would have been something just to see how Chester Gould would have handled the Joker.

  3. Just the other day I was thinking that it'd be interesting to see Tracy team up with Spider-Man to face off against a pairing of Hammerhead and Flattop.

  4. Bob, Tracy already did that with Bullseye: https://braveandboldlost.blogspot.com/2022/07/dick-tracy-and-bullseye.html

  5. Tracy had two other villains who seemed awfully familiar: Haf-n-Haf, who was badly scarred on one side of his face; and Broadway Bates, who always wore a tuxedo, monocle, and top hat, and carried an umbrella. (There was a Broadway Bates storyline a few years ago in which he mentioned his brother Oswald.)

  6. Ah, the value of appreciating history...and great guest stars too. And we're in the middle of the case. Too bad Oliver can't read minds.

That's a feather in your cap getting that pairing. Green, yellow red. What a force. Speedy is in use. So many good stories gone to waste cause you can't tell them. You need a comic company of your own.

  8. @Det. Tobor: But, Moon Maid can (I think). She's Mrs. Dick Tracy, Junior, if I recall, correctly.

  9. @Anon824: that she was. But, the only super powers she ever canonically exhibited were electronic signal jamming, energy projection and body temperature alteration.
