Ultra The Multi-Alien is definitely a Silver Age C-lister, but as a kid, I thought he was pretty cool. Maybe it's because he looks like something that a kid might have come up with. We used to play a game where we would fold paper in three and pass it around with each of us kids drawing a head, torso, or legs on it. Then you would unfold the paper and see what kind of crazy character was created. Ultra reminds me of one of those.
With his equally garish color scheme, I can't help but imagine Marvel's Captain Ultra facing the Multi-Alien...
ReplyDelete@Big Mike: I'd rather see Capt. Ultra take on the Ultra-Humanite.
ReplyDelete@Ross: all I can remember about Ultra the Multi-Alien is that he was supposed to be an accidental fusion of four extra-terrestrial villains dominated by the mind of an altruistic Earthling. I can't recall the exact super-powers that gave him, as a result. But, I doubt they made him any kind of match for the Silver Surfer.
@Anon623: Ultra had super-strength through his right upper-torso. Bio-magnetism (similar to Cosmic Boy) through his left upper torso. Bio-electricity (similar to Lightning Lad) from his left leg. And autonomous flight from his right leg. Although, I don't think he could fly unaided through the vacuum of space like Dawnstar.
ReplyDeleteP.S. @ Ross: will the winner be taking on Thanos from yesterday's "issue"?
ReplyDelete@Big Mike; that would be just the thing to leave a colorist crying in his beer.
ReplyDelete@Ross; yet another great crossover/ take my money moment.
I'd like to second Big Mike's idea. I could get behind Sabine Wren and the Sixth Doctor being on the cover with them while we're at it.
ReplyDelete@Anonymus, Ultra was an Earthman who was hit simultaneously by four scientists who each had and fired a ray gun capable of turning an alien into one of them.
ReplyDeleteUTRA the Muti-Alien was one of my faves as a kid. So was METAMORPHO, ECLIPSO, DOOM PATROL. all of those comic heroes were changed by accidents or strange circumstances. which left them looking bizarre but with new with fantastic abilities.
ReplyDeleteUltra reminded me of an alien Metamorpho with the 4different parts. Since Mixy has had bets with Bat-mite, seeing him branch out with betting is a "natural".
ReplyDeleteUltra, with his white trunks, was one of my first awakenings to how silly some of the Comics Code Authority (and the mindset behind them) taboos were.
ReplyDelete@Bob Greenwade: I got the perfect name for such a super-group.
ReplyDelete"THE UNFASHIONABLES!"
@Dark Avenger: with an origin like that, he should eventually team-up with the android Capt. Marvel! After all; one superhero whose powers derive from a physical merger while another can beat a whole group of super-villains by basically splitting himself up? Sounds like a natural to me. :-)
ReplyDelete@Tobor: I'll bet the winner has to go and steal the Infinity Horn from Vanth Dreadstar. Why? To keep Thanos from having a multiversally destructive jam session with it!
ReplyDelete@Anon1212: that sounds like it would be a more fitting name for trench coat wearers like Inspector Gadget, Agent Tom of T.H,U.M.B., and Inch High the Private Eye.
ReplyDeleteHere in Australia, I'm still waiting for a return of Ultraa (the first superhero on Earth Prime), either on this blog or in an actual comic.
ReplyDelete@ Carycomic:just remember, there is a time limit on the mission...Otherwise...
ReplyDeleteThe Horn blows at Midnight!!
Ross forbid! I still remember the travesty of Mal Duncan being demoted from Guardian to Hornblower. :-(
ReplyDeleteTalk about qualifying for membership in The Unfashionables!
ReplyDeleteI remember a toy that had head torso and legs on interchangeable plastic plates that a kid could make dozens of different characters with. You would etch them onto paper with a pencil and then color them if you wanted. It was similar to the girls toy "fashion plates"
ReplyDeleteUltra should team up with Animal-Vegetable-Mineral Man against Metamorpho.
ReplyDelete@Alec: not enough counter-balancing characters from other comic publishers.
ReplyDeleteUltra looks like he could be friends with the Super Skrull.
ReplyDeleteI could see the Impossible Man watching this too.
