There's been lots of rumors swirling about Jason Mamoa playing Lobo in James' Gunns new DCU movie plans. This is really what should have been done in the first place, he's a perfect fit for the character and basically infused that personality onto Arthur Curry anyway. Some say that there will be confusion with him going from Aquaman to a new comic character, but I think that audiences have seen enough actors play multiple superhero roles in the past that they can roll with it.
The solution seems simple enough to me. Have Mamoa-as-Aquaman killed in action in the Justice League sequel. Then depict the title as being inherited by a blue-eyed blond younger guy named Garth Perkins.* Shortly after which, Mamoa re-enters the picture as the Main Man from Czarnia (tweaked as a now-dead planet in a parallel universe). As I see it, that's no bigger a stretch than replacing Ioan Gruffud with John Kasinski as Reed Richards (in "...Multiverse of Madness")!---Carycomic

I think the confusion would come from Jason playing two different major superhero roles in the same universe at the same time. What happens when Lobo meets Aquaman? Would it be like when Ray Palmer met the alt-world Superman (both played by Brandon Routh) in the Arrowverse Crisis on Infinite Earths?
ReplyDelete(On the other hand, I'm hoping for a scene in the MCU where Sersi meets Minn-Erva. Then again, I do have a special affection for Gemma Chan. I'm a bit less interested in a Captain America/Human Torch meet-up.)
On the topic of same-actor meetings, I think the only one you've done so far has been Michael Keaton. I still think that there are still some good possibilities out there for (at least) Ben Affleck, Ryan Reynolds, Josh Brolin, Karen Gillen, Jared Leto, and even J. K. Simmons.
How about dueling Dolph Lundgrens? Like Punisher'89 vs. a Jackal-cloned Andrew Scott (from UNIVERSAL SOLDIER).
ReplyDelete@Bob He's had Professor X meet Captain Picard, both played by Patrick Stewart, in number 589. Also, Han Solo met Indiana Jones in number 1455, with Harrison Ford obviously being the link. I think there have been others, but that's all I can remember for now.

I wonder if there is a crossover motorcycling event. Ghost Rider and Lobo would be contenders for that. Not sure who else would. It also got me to thinking... Ghost Rider and Lobo would be candidates for membership in the Sinestro Corps. Also, can you imagine if Sauron was given a yellow power ring? The power ring could essentially give Sauron a body again!
ReplyDeleteAlso want to say I agree that Manoa would make a great Lobo. I enjoyed his version of Aquaman, too, and don’t quite agree with the remaking of the DC Universe, but that is not up to me.
