There's been lots of speculation about Chris Evans returning the MCU as Steve Rogers, despite the fact that his story came to an end in Avengers Endgame and the Captain America mantle has been passed on. One way to do bring him back without undermining those developments is to tell stories of what happened to Cap in the alternate timeline where he finally had his dance with Peggy Carter. That way we could get a WWII Captain America movie featuring the debut of The Invaders. That's what I would do, anyway. Kevin Feige seems to have taken my number off of his speed dial.
Beautifully done layout. Everything works to perfection. As far as Steve goes, he raises the question of not how many parallel universes are involved, but how many intercepting timelines.
ReplyDeleteChris Evans-as-Cap could probably be depicted as having Silver Age adventures alongside the original Pym/Wasp team (Michael Douglas and Michele Pfeiffer facially cyber-rejuvenated).
ReplyDeleteAs for today's cover? Maybe Solomon Grundy was sent back in time by Karate Kid (from STF #1700) at the suggestion of GL Alan Scott (from STF #2621) to save the Invaders. All while being controlled, from within, by Deadman (from STF #3576)!
That scenario would certainly explain the strangely green-glowing rocks that SG is smashing through!
ReplyDeleteI'm with Carycomic re: a Silver Age idea(s). Way I see it is I doubt Steve couldn't just sit back if something was happening- a bank robbery, a building on fire w/ people inside it, a super villain doing something (maybe Nathan Garrett the criminal Black Knight which could tie into his nephew & the Eternals teasers) and Steve stopping him, not as Captain America, but perhaps in the Nomad identity. I just don't see him sitting on the sidelines when the shit hits the fan. There's no way he'd let innocent people get hurt. And since Jimmy Woo is established in the MCU I'm thinking the Agents of Atlas/ the so-called 1950s Avengers maybe around who could work w/ Steve (Marvel Boy-Venus-Gorilla Man-the 3D Man-Human Robot-Namora (cousin to Namor & could be a tie in for Atlantis and the Wakandans?) But I can see some potential here. Hell I'd love to write some with this all.
ReplyDeleteOne thing that's been discussed (among fans) is the possibility of a Disney+ limited series showing Steve's adventures as he goes about returning the Infinity Stones to their proper points in the timeline. It could even (and this only just now occurred to me) tie in with What If...?, with the Watcher bookending each episode, and possibly teasing what happened in the timelines where Thanos vanished, where the Pym particles were stolen, and (had the TVA not intervened) where Loki escaped.
ReplyDeleteAnd certainly seeing Cap in flashbacks in a Namor solo film, a future Ant-Man project, Fantastic Four, or even the next Captain America sequel would be welcome. That's not even counting how Chris could come around as an alternate-universe version in a future multiverse-related project (including Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, or Loki Season 2), whether as Captain America or as the Hydra-Stomper.
PS: With the recent passing of William Hurt, it might be a fitting tribute to do a Red Hulk vs. Black Racer cover.
ReplyDeleteThat's right! He had taken over portraying "Thunderbolt" Ross from Sam Elliott. I wonder if Mr. Elliot could be persuaded to reprise the role? You know; whenever Marvel Films does the next Hulk sequel.
ReplyDeleteGreat cover! Solomon Grundy replaces The Golem. Always love seeing Cap and The Invaders here.
ReplyDeleteHey! That would be perfect for a sequel. Solomon Grundy vs. the Golem (created by Roy Thomas & Herb Trimpe)!
ReplyDeleteMr. Wolfhammer? You're a genius. :-)
@Anon@12:29: Actually, Sam Elliott's part as Ross was in Hulk, a non-MCU film. William was the only "Thunderbolt" the MCU's ever had. I don't think I'd object to Sam taking up where William left off; but on the whole, if Sam were to get an MCU role, I'd rather see him return as Carter Slade.
ReplyDeleteWith maybe him and Johnny Blaze going into business as free-lance advertising men? I can see it now.
