My father used to drive our family of nine around in a Volkswagen bus when I was a kid. More recently, one of my brothers purchased a vintage 1972 VW bus, and boy, does riding in it bring back memories. When I saw that Batman had one of his own, I knew that I had to make a cover around it.
Batman and Spider-Man have a bit of history on STF: The Lost Issues...
Batman got his first look at the Spider-Buggy in STF #1628...The Batman/Spidey movie premiered in STF #1014
Spidey and JJJ joined forces against Batman in STF #937...
They were joined by some Amazing Friends in back in October 2011...
The shared a Golden Age adventure in September 2011...
Spidey wore his black outfit for their July 2010 meeting...
And here is where they first crossed paths.
And don't forget that The Spider-Buggy has seen action with Superman, as well...
What a Shocker of a cover.
ReplyDeleteI used to have the Mobile Crime Lab for my Mego Batman and Robin. Would have rather had the Batmobile, but the bus was cool in its own way. Thanks for the flashbacks!
ReplyDeleteWhere did the Bat Rav come from? Wow!
ReplyDeleteWas this the Batbus put out by Corgi Toys circa 1967?
ReplyDeleteThis is probably the silliest cover you've put out so far, Ross. It has 1969 written all over it. It certainly is a good STFLI Hall of Fame candidate! Well done!
ReplyDeleteAnd really, either (or both) of these vehicles could join the Wacky Races.
Does anyone else get the feeling that DC's Stargirl and Marvel's Gwenpool would become BFFs if only they got the chance to meet? I know that this observation has nothing to do with today's cover, but where else would they ever meet if not on this blog?
ReplyDeleteDon't Mock the Shocker!
ReplyDeleteIf only he'd brought his Shock-Mobile :p

LOVE IT!!!!
ReplyDelete@Big MIke: it was probably at the garage getting some new Shock-absorbers. ;-D
ReplyDeleteBats looks a little sun-burned here.
ReplyDeleteAh the Bat-Lab! I plyted with mine for years, even though I really wanted the Jokermobile.
ReplyDeleteFor a follow-up you need to have the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles show up with their bus:

@Cary: no. Ross was evidently just alliterating. The official name, as stated by the others, was "Mobile Bat Crime Lab" from Mego Toys.
ReplyDeleteThanks! To be honest, that's one toy I don't ever remember seeing in the Montgomery Ward Xmas Catalog when I was a kid. Probably because I was trying to get Santa to bring me the Kryptonian Supermobile from Matt-El.
ReplyDeleteThere's a funny (NSFW, suited for adults only) story in which a Rule 63 version of the Teen Titans are bumming around the country in a tricked-out VW Type 2 van they call the "Type 2000": https://www.tgfa.org/fiction/earth349/349_Crisis.htm.
