It's been announced that more
Planet of the Apes movies are on the way. Now that the trilogy featuring apes' leader Ceasar is completed, it will be interesting to see where the story goes. I am assuming a significant time jump, perhaps Ceasar's adult son will be the new protagonist. If they are able to keep up the quality of the last 3 films, I'll be glad to check it out.
Now would be a great time for a Twilight Zone interaction. Maybe a parallel Earth story where the two sons meet without knowing quite where they where.
ReplyDeleteOn your marks, get set and...! My imagination is up and running. Cascading these two franchises just sparks the imagination. Outstanding, Ross.
ReplyDeleteI suspect Leia is going to need help in dealing with these simian thugs. Perhaps Detective Chimp could make an appearance in later episodes?
A thought..has Gorilla Grodd ever clashed with the Planetary Apes?
Yeah! In the mini-series crossover between POTA and GREEN LANTERN, back while Boom! Comics still had the licensing rights from 20 Century Fox (pre-Disney buy-out).
ReplyDeleteThere was also that gag cameo in SPACEBALLS; the Mel Brooks spoof of STAR WARS that I like to credit as indirectly inspiring the restart of both franchises.
ReplyDeleteSome of the pre-Legend stories in The STAR WARS Journal even featured simian civilizations! The medieveal Coynites; and the green-furred Force-using Yrashu of the jungle planet Baskarn.
ReplyDeleteAs for today's cover? Yeah, I could see this being done as a STAR WARS Infinities crossover with Leia crashing on POTA after evacutating the Tantive IV.
ReplyDeleteHey, even Wookies are basically simian -- and as tempting as it might be to suggest Chewbacca on POTA, he's too obvious. How about Krrsantan, given his recent appearance on The Book of Boba Fett?
ReplyDeleteThis is the first I'd heard of a fourth film in last decade's POTA movies, so I looked it up on Wikipedia to see if there was any further information. There's nothing significant there on that other than what you've stated here, but there is another bit of interesting news: Planet of the Men, based on an unused script by original POTA author Pierre Boulle, is in development for TV. Now, that should be interesting!
I'm hoping the next film takes up where the epilogue of Tim Burton's 2000 remake left off. If only to see if the House of Thade has outlawed worship of Simos the Lawgiver and tried to erase all mention of Caesar.
ReplyDelete@Anon@12:00: The movie takes place at some point after War for the Planet of the Apes, exploring Caesar's legacy.
ReplyDeleteThen, I wonder if Little Nova will meet a kid named Taylor.
ReplyDeleteGood one, namesake! :-)
ReplyDeleteNext: Leia must face... Darth Zaius?
ReplyDeleteOn the topic of interesting candidates for Sith, how about Samuel Sterns (the Leader)? Khan Noonien Singh? Skeletor? Megatron? Inigo Montoya? The Joker?
ReplyDeleteAh! Good choices Bob Greenwade.
ReplyDeleteI'd prefer a renegade country-Western singer: Darth Brooks!
ReplyDeleteYou know; from the Outer Rim planet, Ord Memfiss?
