Sasquatch and Captain Canuck

I remember during the comics boom of the 90's, all sorts of new superhero teams were popping up, most of which did not last very long.  One thing they all seemed to have in common was "the big guy in the back".  Every group shot seemed to have one member of giant proportions standing behind the rest of the teammates.  I don't know if it was because the writers all liked these oversized characters, or if the artists would just rather draw another hero than a background, but there were lots of examples of this.  Sasquatch was the big guy in the back for Alpha Flight, but he did it before it became a cliche!  look forward to Marvel Phase 8 or whenever he and Alpha Flight will make their MCU debut!

  1. I remember Captain Canuck from the initial phase of the short-lived Indie Boom. "Batman's moves in Vindicator's costume," I thought at the time. But, not with any displeasure. In fact, I'd say most of my displeasure was at the cancellation of the title!*

*At least, here in the States, where its mass marketing was arguably shorter-lived than the Now Comics version of the Green Hornet.

  2. Knowing our luck, when the MCU gets to Alpha Flight, it'll be a limited series restricted to channels on Rogers (the main Canadian in-home content provider)...

  4. I still have Now Comics version of the Green Hornet on my bookshelf.

I think with media company marketers deciding that consumers will pay extra for + channels I think it is possible for Alpha Flight to eventually get to screen although it will look little like what is seen in comics. Too bad we will never see a little Steve Rogers treatment of Puck.

  5. @Me: that's assuming most consumers can afford those "+" hcannels.

  6. An Alpha Flight movie would be a great way for the MCU to introduce Wolverine. Have him as a member and include a fight with Hulk. End it with Wolverine leaving to join X-Men.

  7. I'd even go for a three-for-all!

Thunderbolt Ross drafting Kraven the Hunter to go after the Hulk. The Hunter tracking him all the way into Canada. And Wolverine having to split his attention between the two of them.

  9. How about Gen. "Thunderbolt" Ross and Johnny Thunder's Thunderbolt? (Or some variation thereov.)

  10. Hmmm! The general, using the magic of his pink nick-namesake to capture the Hulk? Yeah, I can see that.

    Mr. Greenwade? You're a genius! :-)

  11. @Unknown and GG: I'm sure even the Asgardian goddess of love would agree.
