Sgt. Fury and The Haunted Tank

The fact that DC Animation is finally releasing a period piece Justice Society movie has me hopeful that we will finally see some more of DC Comic's war stars show up either in that or a future project.  Imagine a animated wartime tale featuring Sgt. Rock & Easy Company, The Haunted Tank, The Unknown Soldier, Mademoiselle Marie, The Losers and so on.  I'm not sure how commercially viable it would be, but I would definitely check it out!

  1. We sorely need Blackhawk on TV or in the movies. And that's a perfect cover.

  2. I think many people might not appreciate the "novelty" of an animated war cartoon. It will also depend on the art style used.

    Tanks for the memories
    the world under stress
    supplies in a mess
    all this sounds so fresh!

  4. Maybe a team-up of machines containing human minds could be done, including, at least, the Haunted Tank and Rosie the Robot (The Jetsons (2017)).

  5. Anon 7:09 AM: You could call it "Ghosts in the Machines".

Machines containing human minds - Robotman, Astroboy, 8th Man, The Metal Men and that's not the villians.

  7. @Both Anons: why not? All's fair in love and war stories.

Great combo, here, Ross. They go together so naturally, I almost thought to myself: "Why's he using two DC concepts? Where's the Marvel counter-balance?"

    Silly me! :-)

  8. I don't know about anyone else but I would love to see a wartime animated feature. Sgt Rock and GI Combat were books I bought every month along with all of my superhero titles.

  9. Does that include Vision and Jo?

  10. Personally, I can think of at least three good potential TV projects that DC could pursue -- Blackhawks, Easy Company, or All Star Squadron -- to bring their other WWII characters a bit of exposure through guest appearances. I think it might even be possible to start with one of the three and work the other two into spinoffs.

I also understand that fans of Legends of Tomorrow have been wanting to see Sgt. Rock almost since the beginning, especially since Jonah Hex first showed up.

Speaking of Jonah, I just did a check to see if he'd ever been teamed with Ghost Rider, and of course he's been with both Noble Kale and Johnny Blaze. I'd like to see more of his time-tossed self, though; maybe he could work with Cosmic Ghost Rider, or Thundarr and his friends. Or, put him with Cable; not only could that guy help get Hex back to his own time, but it would be a nice nod to Josh Brolin (throw in MiB's Agent Kay for more time-travel fun, and make Thanos the villain of the piece to round out the set).

Better still, put Hex (and his robot horse) with Din Djarin; after all, The Mandalorian is designed as a "space Western" in the Star Wars universe. I think Jonah's fit right in.

  11. I enjoy the JSA series and most of All-Star Squadron. If they do a remake of any of them, I just hope they make sure to stay real to the time period.

  12. @Bob Greenwade: the supreme confrontation would be time-displaced Jonah Hex vs... JUDGE DREDD!

  13. They have already released a Sgt Rock animated short where he works with the Creature Commandos.
