It will be interesting to see the evolution of Baron Zemo when Falcon and the Winter Soldier finally hits Disney+. will the seeds be planted for his decision to create the identity of Citizen V and a team of Thunderbolts? The villains disguised as heroes series was a favorite of mine and I would love to see that story line adapted for the MCU.
This could go over well...many of Batman's foes have taken turns at saying they had reformed and were heroes while setting up plans.

ReplyDeleteThe Bat-Rogues as Thunderbolts? I give that incarnation five minutes, at most, before they all turn on Zemo, Jr! Too many alpha personalities to wait any longer than that before attempting usurpation.

ReplyDeleteThere are some broad hints that the Thunderbolts will be coming to the MCU, but under the direction of the eponymous Gen. Ross, with the big reveal being in Black Widow, probably in the post-credits scene. I suppose that's one silver lining for the pandemic: anticipation for these things has been heightened, and appreciation when they come probably will be as well.

Now, who, among those villains shown here, would take up Citizen V on his offer? Joker, definitely; he'd see it as a great opportunity to make a fool of the Bat. Penguin's figure would be too distinctive, but he might agree to handle logistics. Scarecrow might join up if he can figure out a good alternate persona. Riddler could be convinced, and might even be able to go out as-is (he's had his turn on the side of the good guys, for real), though unfortunately for the team he's also the person most likely to slip up. And Matches, of course, would disguise himself as a cheap Batman knockoff. (Is that another villain at Scarecrow's left shoulder, or is that just part of his costume?)

ReplyDeleteLove this idea, but I'm aa hardcore fan of Thunderbolts in the original idea, from '97. Some of Batman's rouges I can see going along, but a number of them no way. For ex; can you see the Joker seriously going along w/ this plan? I'm thinking for a possible line up under Citizen V's leadership; Bane, Deadshot, Poison Ivy, Scarecrow (w/ a leash on him), Anarky, Catman, the Cavalier, Lady Vic, Lock Up, Signalman.

@Bob: Too true. Ross, himself, has stated Marvel never intends to have intra-company crossovers between its mainstream characters and the Disney characters (a la DC's "JLA-Meets-Bugs Bunny's All-Stars"). So, he wouldn't technically be imitating one should he depict Mulan and Rouge meeting through some kind of time travel.*
