Even though they had already broken up when I was only a three months old, The Beatles were always my favorite band when I was growing up. I attribute that to having older brothers and listening to whatever they listened to. I used to say that The Beatles were my favorite three bands, because they changed up the style of their music during the beginning, middle and end of their time together as a band. That versatility is part of what keeps their songs so popular over half a century later.
Music is known to calm the Hulk so if they get a chance to play, they will win.
ReplyDeleteWhat is also remarkable about the Beattles is their solo careers after they broke up. I especially think of McCartney who had success with Wings and Harrison who had a great solo career. One of my favorite projects of Harrison's is the Traveling Wilburys with Roy Orbison, Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne, and Bob Dylan. Great music! Lennon also had success, although I did not care much for his solo material. Ringo did not do too bad either, particularly with his All Star Bands that he has toured with.
ReplyDeleteWhat a coincidence! I've just started reading Danny Fingeroth's biography of Stan Lee, and in the opening pages, he tries very hard to draw parallels between Stan and the Fab Four.
ReplyDeleteI remember being drop-jawed with shock when I heard about Sir Paul being given that life-time achievement Grammy...and all those Millenial know-nothings who bad-mouthed him on the Internet almost immediately.
ReplyDeleteI hope they were suitably embarrassed when they googled all about his accomplishments afterward. Accomplishments their own dubiously renowned musical idols will probably never equal (let alone, surpass)!
Most every generation under age 30 thinks no decent music existed prior to their own individual births. That's why half of them seem to act like Green---oops! I mean, Blue---Meanies.
ReplyDeleteAh. Brings back memories of Howard the Duck and KISS....
ReplyDeleteWas Hulk referring to Ed Sullivan?
ReplyDelete@Anon 10:02: I too was wondering who he was referring to, I can't believe I didn't think of that!
ReplyDeletePersonally, while growing up in the 70s I had a great appreciation for earlier music, particularly Glenn Miller and Spike Jones. I'm still pleasantly surprised when high school students (and even college students not majoring in music) also show an appreciation for the same stuff -- or the 70s funk/R&B that I loved most at the time.
ReplyDeleteTwo Beatles ideas for you Ross: One, a cover with KISS (a "battle of the bands" or "New Guard" type of thing); and the other with Hal Jordan (or maybe John Stewart) trying to rescue them from a runaway Yellow Submarine.
I don't know, Bob. The Yellow Submarine artwork looks to me more Roger Ramjet or Sherman and Peabody than Green Lantern.
DeleteIf art style is no object, is love to see Green Lantern join International Rescue. Or perhaps the Thunderbirds' retractable swimming pool contrasted with the exit to the Batcave from the 1960s tv show.
I'll bet the Hulk is mad because he was tired of going barefoot and (misunderstanding a TV promo) came to Sullivan looking for "big shoes."
ReplyDeletePerhaps with Aquaman getting fish-fried as he climbs out of the pool...just as Alan Tracy takes off in Thunderbird 3!
ReplyDelete@Anon@8:38: That's a legitimate concern, of course, and the reason I won't be worried if we never see it. I was just thinking of how dramatic the situation would be.
ReplyDelete@Anon638: I'd rather see Brother Power The Geek join International Rescue. Or, even better? Bob "Stingray" Newell join the World Aquatic Security Patrol (WASP)!
ReplyDelete"Big shoes." LOL! I just got it!!
ReplyDelete...And Hulk is still a better drummer than Ringo!
