Zatanna Vs. Loki

There's one thing from the Marvel Phase Four announcements that I haven't seen anyone bring up yet.  When they did the presentation for the Loki series on Disney+, I found the logo they used for the show to be very interesting. Each letter in the villain's name has a vastly different look and font than the others.  This is a strong indication to me that we can expect many different iterations of the character to appear on the series.  Maybe this is where audiences will first begin to explore the multiverse, setting up the next Dr. Strange movie.

  1. Or maybe they were just trying to show him as unpredictable.

we have got a bunch of writers here at Disney, each sees Loki differently. Since the legends don't limit him in any particular way, why should we? We're going to write all kinds of stories and let the viewers tell us what they like and don't. Think of him like Bruce Banner turning into a different Hulk personality in each episode. Never know what kind of Hulk he'll be. Isn't that exciting?

  3. More like which Iron Man suit is Tony going to show up in now?

  4. No doubt inspired by the different sides of Bruce Wayne we've seen over the years. Which would you pick for a Batman guest episode? Lewis Wilson, Adam West, Robert Lowery , George Clooney, Christian Bale, Ben Affleck, Michael Keaton or Val Kilmer unless you want Will Arnett? Multiverse never even thought of.

  5. I remember this cover shot! It's from Zatanna's four-part debut in ADVENTURE COMICS, during Supergirl's San Francisco phase (aka "the on-again/off-again powers period").

And good-girl artwork like this makes me wish all the more she had been allowed to keep her stage-mage look after official induction into the JLA.

  6. They did day that the Wanda/Vision show would lead directly into the Dr. Strange movie. So I think a lot of the setup will be there

  7. I'm not saying a word about a future Vision talking about a Strange movie.

  8. I've always loved Zatanna, but, somewhat like Cary, I prefer the original "good-girl"/stage magician look, such as she wears in the DCAU -- basically, the one shown here minus the yellow waistlet. The artists and editors have moved her from a strong professional woman well into "male fantasy" territory, with increasingly emphasized breasts and overt sexuality. I know that many consider this to be making her more "liberated," but I see it as a headlong dive in the opposite direction. I'd even go so far as to replace the fishnets with slacks (a look that I think has actually happened once or twice).

(That said, there's also the possibility of a superheroine deliberately sexualizing herself, as a distraction to male opponents. Green Lantern Alan Scott once made a remark suggesting that Power Girl was doing exactly that!)

  9. PS @ Horsefeathers: What, not Kevin Conroy? Maybe with Brandon Routh as Superman, Lynda Carter as Wonder Woman, David Ramsey as Green Lantern, John Wesley Shipp as the Flash... well, just wait until December, and watch the Arrowverse's Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover.

  10. I wouldn't be averse to Zee wearing slacks off-stage, so as to blend in better with the DCU equivalent of muggles. But, on-stage and in battle, the fishnets have _got_ to stay!

If only to provide the aforementioned distraction.

  11. But does NOBODY want a return of the 'red bug' headpiece?

  12. Unless her voice is somehow disabled, what is Zatanna's problem here?

    "SNOMED ENOGEB!"

    "EREHPS ENOGEB!"

    "IKOL NRUT OT ENOTS!"

Funny you should ask. Kevin is reported to be playing a Bruce Wayne from the future for the Crisis. Surprised?

It wasn't until I saw a youtube info about it that I had more than just wishes about him getting his due. Years ago, he said that he was told he wouldn't be doing that role anymore. All this is the right kind of justice. And he won't even need to be in costume like the other actor doing Batman.

  17. Well, let me tell you now: Conroy is confirmed, as is Routh (reprising the role from Superman Returns, but with a Kingdom Come twist). Carter is rumored, and Ramsey (who already plays John Diggle aka Spartan) is somewhere in between. Shipp stands to reason.

That's not even counting confirmations of Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch continuing their roles as Superman and Lois Lane, Jon Cryer returning as Lex Luthor, Cress Williams joining the proceedings as Black Lightning (no word on his daughters), and Burt Ward in a yet-undisclosed role (though you can bet it'll be an elderly Dick Grayson). Nor does that include reports I've seen of Tom Welling and Michael Rosenbaum reprising their roles from Smallville, or suggestions that Titans may become a part of things (I doubt this one, but one can hope).

  18. I thought I read today that Lynda Carter is officially NOT going to be in crisis.

I had wondered if they could use some computer-aided trickery to bring some other interaction with the Arrow-verse (a la the classic Deep Space Nine episode: Trials and Tribble-ations). The technology of decades better now, it would just depend on the budget.

Yes. That's it. Loki WILL BE just like all those Jokers.

  21. @Simreeve: I certainly don't. I kept fearing somebody was going to do a story where it turned out to be a mind-controlling parasite straight out of Lovecraft!

Well, maybe, half-afraid/half-hopeful. As in, hopeful that such a story would finally get rid of it, permanently. Thereby resulting in a ret-con of which I could--and definitely would--heartily approve!

  22. I gotta agree. You know that video game that has Zatanna physically duking it out with Unjust Superman (for some reason)? If I were him, she wouldn't even need to utter one syllable sdrawkcab! I'd just take one look at those luscious fishnet-clad legs...and surrender unconditionally.

    Rowr-rowr! :-)

  23. Seriously, though: this would a great conclusion to a trilogy begun in STF #1658 and continued in STF #2316.

  24. Hello room service, send up a roomAugust 8, 2019 at 5:20 AM

    ?
How is it with all that ALL of you know, NOBODY mentioned Zatanna's multiple appearances on Smallville? That actress played her well with sexuality, intelligence, and believability.

Her enchanted champagne episode was fun but not as satisfying as the comic convention episode they went to. And seeing Lois in the Wonder Woman garb to be used in that future movie was....happily surprising. Zatanna definitely deserves to be included in Crisis and the Arrowverse.

  25. Maybe so. But, since she has--thus far--failed to appear on any of the "Arrowverse" shows, I can only assume that SMALLVILLE was her Serinda Swan-song.

  26. I stopped watching Smallville after what they did with Cyborg. Even the lower-budget streaming show put the cybernetics where you could see them. It couldn't have been that expensive just to make the headpiece instead of homaging it in an X-Ray vision scan. I was already losing interest in the show but that kind of clinched it for me and from what I heard it got even less away from DC multiversal continuity after that. Welling didn't want to wear the suit. If I saw Zatanna on there it was maybe once.
