Hawkman and Captain America "In the Clutches of the Living Mountain!"

I always got a kick out of "giant hand holding the hero" covers for some reason.  It was a common motif during the Bronze Age of comics that I grew up with and made for a striking visual, whether the hand in question was clutching a single hero or entire team.

Hawkman and Cap first met back in STF #757...

  2. Ross, if possible for you, you should get a copy of DC's 1977 calendar. For October, I believe, you get a Neal Adams drawing of the Easter Island totems coming animated against the Spectre and Deadman, and I think one of 'em is caught by a titanic figure. That's if you need MORE impetus to see non-comic Neal Adams art on the Spectre and Deadman.

I believe you can see it at this link: http://comicartcommunity.com/gallery/details.php?image_id=37050

  3. Just for this kind of visual, Ross, maybe you could feature a panel-filling fist holding a group of heroes with as little in common as you can manage. As just an off-the-cuff example, the Anti-Monitor could grab Dazzler, the Tick, Judy Jetson, Xena, Gizmoduck, the Toxic Avenger, and Shag (of the Road Rovers). But whoever you pick would have to be just whoever has a pose that looks right, regardless of whether they'd go with the others. It would be a fun image! (Maybe for next year's April 1 cover?)

PS: Speaking of the Road Rovers, should you ever bring back The Lunatic Fringe, you might consider adding Muzzle. I know you probably haven't seen the show, but I do recommend it; full episodes are available on Dailymotion.

(Freakazoid would be a good fit too, for the LF.)

  4. That looks like a Joe Kubert Hawkman, especially with rock hard muscles. As to a long reach, here's Adam Strange #59, http://www.coverbrowser.com/covers/mystery-in-space/2 may be of interest.

  5. Hmmmmmm! Could this "Living Mountain" be to the Stone Men of "Saturn" what Darkseid is to the New Gods of Apokolips?

  6. That weapon looks much more like something Adam Strange would use than Hawkman. Where did the Hawkman image come from?
