APRIL FOOLS!
Here's the real STF issue #2544. Have any of Marvel's western stars made the leap to animation? I can't remember that Red Wolf, Phantom Rider, or Kids Colt, Two-Gun and Rawhide ever made so much as a cameo on any of the various Marvel cartoons. That should be remedied, there's plenty of potential there.
I would not be at all surprised if the person holding that gun turned out to be Jonah Hex.
ReplyDeleteJonah, at least, has appeared not only in an ill-conceived movie, but also in a much better handling on Legends of Tomorrow. I know that fans have been wanting to see more of him and his Western connections, to say nothing of such World War II heroes as the Unknown Soldier, the Haunted Tank, and most of all Sgt. Rock and Easy Company.
Perhaps Marvel can do a Western miniseries or three on the new Disney+ streaming service, especially if they can figure out a way to lay some Easter eggs for what's going on in the modern-day MCU.
PS: Maybe the previous cover should be renumbered 2543½?
Double congrats for such a wide spectrum of covers. Being a big fan of John Reid, I really enjoyed the Ranger & Tonto, even when they were doing commercials like aquavelva and pizza rolls. Michael Rye's version was also GREATLY appreciated.
ReplyDeleteHas Black Widow come across Lady Shiva? Or ADAM STRANGE & DR STRANGE fighting against STRANGE TIMES?

Ditto.
I'm willing to bet it belongs to one of the gunslinging kinfolk of that "goldang werewolf" from STF #2029. You know; the one whose Warren Publishing alias made him sound like a rejuvenated Czarnian?*
ReplyDelete*Koff--Kid Lobo--Koff!
A version of Phantom Rider was in the Ultimate Spider-man cartoon (as an alternate universe Uncle Ben), but I think that's it.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great day! First, a very funny April Fool cover. And now a bonus with two of my all time favorites.
ReplyDeleteThank you, thank you.

Maybe it should be relabelled as "April".
Well, since it's an all-black cover, why not simply respell it "Julie?"
ReplyDeleteAs in, "Julie Schwartz" (= "black" in German).
No, this is the April issue. It's May the Schwartz be with you. Wait a month.
DeleteAll together now: "GROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAN!"
ReplyDeleteIt's not an all black cover. I can't see a New Zealander anywhere.
ReplyDelete@Anonymous #3: the politically correct term is "swarthy."
ReplyDeleteMeanwhile, just 56 days until the next 100 page super spectacular!
ReplyDeleteWhat can I tell ya? I look forward to these things.
Oh, leave the numbering as is, people. Greedy dealers & collectors love gimmicks, anomalies, printing errors and speculative markets that invite the "pump and dump." If anything, Ross didn't think to use multiple variants with embossed cover designs along with lenticular images for his April Fools issue. He could've started another hologram invasion, too. But Ross didn't. And, thankfully, he has spared us from Rob Liefeld artwork. :D
ReplyDeleteRob Liefeld: the man not-so-nice, he almost bankrupted Image Comics...twice!
