It is being reported that Idris Elba will not be playing Deadshot in the new Suicide Squad movie from James Gunn after all, but rather an all new character. While I am interested to see who that will be, I think that DC is missing out on a perfect opportunity to cast him as the Martian Manhunter at some point. Hes got the physicality, acting ability, gravitas and voice to really bring J'Onn J'Onzz to life.
Y'know, I could see Idris Elba as J'onn J'onzz!
ReplyDeleteFor tomorrow, maybe the Avengers (Marvel Comics) could share a cover with the Avengers (the British agents).
ReplyDeleteOr they could simply use mo-cap of Michael Berryman and a voice-over by Carl Lumbly.
ReplyDeleteNow that you mention it, Idris would be great as J'Onn. It'd be loads of fun to see him this way in a solo movie. Such a film would be a great way to tease a Justice League sequel.
ReplyDeleteSince Idris apparently isn't being cast in that role, and since it'd probably require a lot of performance capture, maybe they could use Andy Serkis. Like Idris Elba, it's not like the MCU's going to be making much use of him soon.
The SUPERGIRL show on CW has a lot of problems that I won't go into here, but the MARTIAN MANHUNTER character is one of the things they got right.
ReplyDeleteIdris Elba as the Bronze Tiger?
ReplyDeleteWolfuammer and AirDave,
ReplyDeletewhat no love for Smallville's Phil Morris as our favorite Manhunter???
oops...
ReplyDeletesorry, Wolfuammer...
i has fat fingers...
my bad...
@Jack-EL: my favorite Manhunter is Paul Kirk. ;-)
ReplyDeleteAbove anon, you only needed to wait three days. Great service! https://braveandboldlost.blogspot.com/2019/04/manhunter-and-captain-kirk.html?m=1
Deleteit happened again....
ReplyDeleteso very sorry, WOLFHAMMER...
jack-el: I thought Phil Morris did an awesome job as the Martian Manhunter, and I wish I could've seen more of him on Smallville. (Judging from the clips I've seen, he's not half bad as Silas Stone, either.)
ReplyDeleteAnd a PS: I'm only half-joking about Andy Serkis, above. It's a departure from recent tradition/canon to cast a white guy as J'Onn, but I think he'd do a good job at it.
Surely you'd have a green guy as J'onn J'onzz.
ReplyDeleteLike, say, a green CGI of Michael Berryman?
ReplyDeleteI mean, he is the only actor in Hollywood physically built like a DC Martian!
