Popeye and Aquaman

I have to believe that the portrayal of Aquaman on Batman: The Brave and Bold was a big influence on Jason Mamoa's take on the sea king for the big screen.  I was originally wary of the bombastic "Outrageous!" version of Arthur Curry on the cartoon, but was quickly won over.  Likewise, I was still unsure about Mamoa as Aquaman after Justice League, but his solo film was so fun and unapologetically comics inspired that I just had to go along for the ride and had a blast with it.

  1. An outrageously brilliant pairing, indeed. Way to go, Ross! :-)

  2. Maybe Bamm-Bamm Rubble could sue Popeye (and Alley Oop?) for selling him steroid-laced spinach for LOOKING strong but being cursed with (more) mortal strength in his teenage years; like that Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm episode where a botched statue disguise coated Bamm-Bamm in cement!

  3. Did you already know that that the time of Popeye's creation 'spinach' was among the slang terms for marijuana?

  4. This is a comic that I would buy without even peeking inside.

Even more fun, though, would be Pinky & the Brain being pursued by the Question.

  5. @Bob Greenwade: especially if The Brain had somehow gotten hold of GL John Stewart's power ring!

  8. Wasn't that an Andrew Sisters song during the Big Band Era?

"Beat Me, Brother, 8 To The Bar?"
