One of the many pleasant surprises from Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was the use of the Ultimate Comics' version of The Green Goblin. Even though he just had a small role, it was very cool to see him in action. The whole movie is jam-packed full of treats for comic fans, though, literally from the first frame to the post credits scene. The love for Spider-Man and the genre that went into the creation of this well-deserved Oscar-winner is very evident, and I highly recommend it.
What do you wanna bet they're fighting over which of them is guilty of color-scheme trademark infringement?
ReplyDeleteI really don't know, lex or Joker in that spot. Granted, Lex is doing so well on Supergirl, with an Iron Man version of his war suit converting back to regular clothes and "realistic" versions of movie henchmen (Manson girl?), along with a courtroom full of death. Maybe he is the right candidate for the AIR FORCE WON.(But does each universe have to create a new variation of kryptonite for itself?)
ReplyDelete@det_Tobor: In an Elseworld issue, Lex Luthor became the Joker.
ReplyDeleteThat armor; put a clear shell head cover on it already! Armor powerful enough to challenge Superman but have the wearer be supceptible to a fist or even a golf ball ain't worth the paper it's printed on!

ReplyDelete"@det_Tobor: In an Elseworld issue, Lex Luthor became the Joker."
In at least TWO Elseworlds stories he did so: One where Kal-El was adopted by the [otherwise] childless Waynes and initially became a superpowered 'Batman' before adopting a 'Superman' identity, and also the one where Luthor killed Superman as a baby (and used his remains as the basis of a solar-power technology) and Joe Chill accidentally killed the Gordons rather than the Waynes so that its "Elseworlds' Finest" team-up is Supergirl and Batgirl...
@ roboT-ted: "...does each universe have to create a new variation of kryptonite for itsel?" I'd say "Pretty much! Yeah."
ReplyDelete@ simreeve & anon: don't forget THE JOKER (v.1) #7, May/June 1976.
"Luthor---You're Driving Me Sane!"
P.S.--Sorry about the misspelling of "itself." But, Brother Barnes told me to get the "f" out of there.
ReplyDeleteI fully agree with you on SM:ITSV, Ross. This was a fun movie that hit all the right notes at all the right moments. I caught a couple of minor faults with the overall story (it sometimes changed mood before I could process what had just happened, and I'm still not sure how Spider-Ham or Spider-Man Noir served the plot), but it really was good enough for its Academy Award.
ReplyDeleteIf there's a sequel, I hope somewhere we get to see the version of Green Goblin from the Sam Raimi/Tobey Maguire trilogy. Many people didn't care for that, but I thought it rocked.
As for Luthor... it blew my mind to see Luthor's old battlesuit (not this iteration) Easter-egged in last night's Supergirl episode. It was an episode full of shocks, and Jon Cryer did an excellent job in his portrayal. There were a few moments where I struggled to recall the context of what was happening, a problem for which I really blame the time constraints of a one-hour television episode, but the reveal of (SPOILER ALERT) how Lex has been pulling the strings for the events of this entire season was outstanding.
I didn't think much of "Revenge of the Inheritors" (or whatever they called the over-all story arc for that unnecessary sequel). Mostly because they killed off Spidey-Noir and Capt. Spiderverse1 Which is ashame because I would've _loved_ to see Spidey-Noir and Lady Spider (steampunk Aunt May) become a thing!
ReplyDeleteI mean, coming from literally different worlds? It's not like they were direct descendants.
Marc, I thought there was an invisible force field around Luthor's head, giving maximum vision and protection.
ReplyDeleteP.S. Ross, how about Mandrake the Magician vs. Lex Luthor. "I destroyed my namesake, the 'strongest man in the world' now it's your turn."
@Anon #2: "Capt. Spiderverse" was the Uni-powered Peter parker from Earth-91110 (or thereabouts). And he got killed during the first story arc, over a year ago! You're thinking of Spidey-UK who was Brian Braddock (presumably spider-bitten while attending an American radiology experiment, sometime after first becoming Capt. Britain).
ReplyDeleteWhile Lady May Spider was from Earth-803.

ReplyDeleteI puzzled over the last Anonymous comment for a minute. Then it hit me what he was talking about: Luthor vs. Lothar!
ReplyDeleteGreen Goblin does not like working with others. He prefers to use them. Luthor works with the Joker and vice versa. I noticed the Joker usually has Luthor's back which is surprising but Luthor does not turn his back to the Joker. I did not read much Superman until John Byrne reinvented Superman but I loved Luthor's battlesuit when it showed up in Action Comics.
ReplyDeleteThought Into The Spiderverse was pretty lame. Morales is no Spider-Man.
ReplyDeleteLooks like the Creeper is about to arrive.
ReplyDeleteI love the composition of this one. Did you need to adjust the colours much?
Maybe just a little tweaking of the contrast.
ReplyDelete@Cary Comic: That was a FUNNY line!
ReplyDelete@Anonymous above: thanks. :-)

Luthor has admitted that he works with the Joker because that's safer than risking the Joker getting annoyed at being left out.
Lex's original pre-debacle on infinite earth's Battle Suit! Green Goblin is a charcoal briquette.
ReplyDeleteVillains green and purple! :-)
ReplyDelete@Isaac: hence, my opening remark. :-)
