Cyborg will be appearing with the upcoming Doom Patrol series, but from what I have seen so far, it looks like a store bought Halloween costume, with only his head piece visible. I thought that his Justice League look was way overproduced - oddly designed CGI made it look like crumpled tinfoil to me - but this new look seems under-produced. Hopefully when his full appearance is revealed, he will be closer to the comics' version.

ReplyDelete(Apparently there was a published DC/Marvel crossover in which he learned about the FF's origin, and recognized the similarity of their story to the start of his, too.)
I'm mostly in agreement with you on Cyborg, Ross, except that I don't think that the TV show's work is quite that bad. I think it's designed to minimize the time that Joivan Wade has to spend in the makeup chair. From the little I've seen, it looks decent enough, and reasonably true to Cyborg's original appearance; the one who looks "wrong" to me is Robotman, though even that may just take a bit of getting used to.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you about the look of the movie Cyborg being odd and overproduced. I also thought that Cyborg was a strange choice for the TV Doom Patrol given that they've already got a cyborg on the team.

ReplyDeleteWouldn't Cyborg Superman have been a more appropriate foe? Considering how both sets of super-villains got their powers as the result of trying to duplicate/surpass the Fantastic Four's original spaceflight?
ReplyDeleteDC needed to get Cyborg onto one of the DC Universe shows, and with the changes in Raven's origin and age it would have been really hard to get him to fit into season 1 of the Titans. Cyborg was in a "I'm a freak" mode when he first started, so the Doom Patrol is a good starting point for him. But given that he wants to be a real super-hero and the rest of the DP not so much, I'd be very surprised if he isn't in the Titans by season 3.
ReplyDeleteVic wore a track suit that only showed his head piece in a lot of the early issues of New Teen Titans. Vic's look in Doom Patrol reminds me of this time period. For now, I think it works, but I hope that we do see the full metal body suit that he hides underneath it.
ReplyDelete@Anonymous: The Hank Henshaw who displayed knowledge of the Fantastic Four's fateful flight was an other-dimensional counterpart who appeared in one of the first intercompany crossovers following the now-classic "DC vs. MARVEL" limited series. Therefore, not the original one who debuted in "The Reign Of The Supermen" story arc that followed the now-classic (and still somewhat controversial) "Death Of Superman" story arc.

Isn't that normal on this blog? I usually have to go through multiple sets of images. But I don't think Ross has much control on this.

ReplyDeleteThe U-Foes deliberately chose to duplicate the Fated Flight of Benjamin J. Grimm and his stalwart crew, (but if memory serves me rightly?) they amplified it up so that they would become even more so powerful than The Fantastic Four for enterprises of a shall we say criminal nature. The odd thing I remember is that they fought The Incredible Hulk, and I do not remember them facing Reed Richards Team. I only know one their code names and that is Vector (the one with the V on his head), the one with the black streaks on Merlot had Power based on Microwave radiation, the gal could kill her opponents by her toxic fumes, and the big fella all I remember about him is that he was stronger than Doctor Leonard Samson (also Marvel).

And Vector (the boss man) could telekinetically reverse the direction and momentum of any object hurled at him.
@Cary Comic did it have to be hurled at Vector or could he reverse for others close to him as well?
