I was surprised to see that next year's DC crossover on the CW is going to be Crisis on Infinite Earths. I have long been waiting for an animated version, but never expected a live action attempt. Can they do it on a TV budget? I do think that The Monitor looked pretty cool on this past years' crossover. If they stretch this over two weeks of episodes of Arrow, The Flash, DC's Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl, Black Lightning and Batwoman they could have twelve chapters, just like the epic maxi-series.
I would pull this book out the spinner rack in a heartbeat!
ReplyDeleteboy , do I wish this comic was real . 2500 issues , congrats , Ross !
ReplyDeleteAwesome cover! Congratulations on 2500 issues!!!
ReplyDeleteI don't want to be a Nay-sayer, however, I'm not sure about a CW Crisis crossover. I'm not even sure about an animated adaptation. Unless the adaptation to animation or live action is going to at least try to stick as close as possible to the original story...
Black Lightning's inclusion would entail some kind of build-up, I think. Like, maybe, one of the chemical components for Green Light was literally not of this Earth. So Gambi and Jefferson do some back-tracking and discover the ASA pod-preserved body of a red-pigmented alien in a green-and-black uniform...with a starfish on his face.
ReplyDeleteRe: today's anniversary cover?
EXCELLENT!
That's all I can think of to say in reaction. :-)
Awesome work subbing Galactus for the Anti-Monitor. The only way COIE works on television is if they incorporate several shows and films from across the networks, and have Tom Welling sub for Earth 2 Superman. It would also need to be longer than 4 or 5 episodes.
ReplyDeleteHappy 2500th Anniversary!
ReplyDeleteNamor and the Question???
ReplyDeleteTalk about an odd couple! ;-)
Congratualtions on your 2500th anniversary, Ross. Can't wait to see if Marvel or DC ever reach the same four-digit landmark!
Ed? What about Dean Cain for Earth 2 Superman? He looks like he is still in physical enough shape to pull it off.
ReplyDeleteAnd that cover was worthy of George Perez with the number of distinct and recognizable figures on it.
I suspect that the WB's COIE will stretch through the entire season. I personally would've preferred the originally-planned 2024 date, with the possibility of including the DC Universe and cinematic versions of the characters, but at least we'll have six shows to work it through.
ReplyDelete@Glenn: Dean Cain already plays Supergirl's foster father, so it'd be an odd thing for one of Superman's dopplegangers to show up looking like him (and unlike casting John Wesley Shipp in his multiple roles, these two can't just be different versions of the same person, since they were born on different planets). Still, it'd be a blast seeing him and Teri Hatcher together again in their old roles; it might even give the producers a good excuse to cast the Jonathan Kent version of Superboy.
Of course, this Superman wouldn't be from the Arrowverse's Earth-2; that individual would more likely turn out to be Ultraman. Maybe Earth-39 (as the one after 38), Earth-93 (if they do use Dean), or some other number.
Re: Today's cover: I can only echo what everyone else is saying here, Ross, especially Ed's note of pulling Galactus into the Anti-Monitor's place. For the secondary tales, I'm most intrigued by the combination of Photon and Negative Man.
Great cover.... one of your best.
ReplyDeleteRoss: Yes indeed, congratulations on #2500. This one was so nice I had to share it with The "Legendary" George Perez Fan Appreciation Group over on Facebook (with a link back to the blog, of course). Hope you don't mind.
ReplyDeleteJay, I prefer when people use the FB links provided below the post rather thatn cutting and pasting full size, especially on the same day the cover is posted.
ReplyDeleteSeeing Mar-Vell on a new cover is always great.
ReplyDelete@Bob G: I dunno. Pre-Crisis, Earth-1 and Earth-2 each had a Carter Hall, though they were born on different planets. Shiera, too.
ReplyDelete@ Both Bobs: yeah! Not only different origins. But, less confusing, too.
ReplyDeleteCrisis could be and animated movie if they were to adapt Marv wolfman's novel rather than the 12 issue series. He was able to condense it into a good read by have the Crisis as viewed by the Flash.
ReplyDeleteRoss: OK. I normally prefer to link to the "front page" of a blog rather than any specific post or image, but I'll do it your way next time.
ReplyDeleteAnd on the back cover is a picture of a giant Spectre about to throw an epic punch.
ReplyDeleteThis is one cover for the ages. I could see them using it as an end chapter cover from the JLA / AVENGERS mini series. Ross, how long did it take to craft this cover from beginning drawing to finished product?
11 out of 10!
Backwards Robot ted - A typical cover takes 3-4 hours once I find the right concept and images. This one took a whole Saturday, 8-9 hours!
ReplyDeleteanother great extra-ordinary anniversery cover for a extremely momentous numbering occasion...
ReplyDeleteand thank you Ross for working a full Saturday on this wonderful cover for your unworthy fans....
us, who show up daily to see your great craftsmanship and creativity....
What Jack-El said. :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jackel and the rest for the kind words on this cover - it's one of my personal favorites.
ReplyDeleteWow! This is just... wow! Really blown away. Where did you get the Galactus piece from? It is perfect.
