Sandman and Sherlock Homes

I was disappointed to hear that Benedict Cumberbatch has signed on to star in a new series, further closing the door on the likelihood of new Sherlock episodes from him and Martin Freeman.  I'll just have to get my Holmes fix elsewhere.  Elementary has gotten better each season and the seems to be continuing.  Robert Downey Junior has hinted that he is ready for a third cinematic outing as the character.  Then there's the upcoming Will Ferrell/John C. Reilly comedy - but I can't say the trailer for that made me laugh once.

  1. Sherlock Holmes was a little before Sandman's time but if Batman can meet up with him then I am sure somehow in the sands of time Sandman can.

  2. It could be worse, Ross. The trailers could've made you laugh. Then, you find out, the hard way, that they used all the _best_ jokes for the preview while the rest of the film is about as funny as a bull shark in a swimming pool!

    I call that "What-About-Bob Syndrome."

  3. I deduce, from the almost--but not quite--mutually superimposed images, that this adventure would begin in Victorian-era London. And then transfer to World War II during the Blitz. With the Nazis using a weaponized form of encephalitis lethargica against Allied leaders. Discourtesy of Prof. Moriarty (or one of his equally evil progeny), of course!*

*Hey! It worked for DETECTIVE COMICS v.1/#572. Didn't it?

  4. If you have HBO Now or HBO Go, there's a new "Miss Sherlock" series that tries to evoke the Cumberbatch series, although Holmes and Watson are both Japanese females and the show takes place in Tokyo.

And CBS has said that Elementary will be back in 2019, but

    SPOILER ALERT

it will be a year later and take place entirely in England (Sherlock is back in 221B Baker St, and Joan now lives in 221A), so there will be a completely new supporting cast.

  5. Maybe I was just spoiled by the late Jeremy Brett, but I've been rather unimpressed with any of the variations on Sherlock Holmes that have come since his portrayal. I don't dislike them; I'm just kind of tepid.

On the other hand, I'd love to see a live-action version of Wesley Dodds that lasts more than a minute and eight seconds.

Mostly, though, I'm just posting to say that this cover is a truly impressive work. Nice going, Ross! What a blend!

  6. I seem to recall reading that the next season of Elementary will be its last, which saddens me. On the other hand, it's at least one more season than originally planned. The season finale was written to be the series finale.

  7. I did feel like a series finale now that you mention it. Glad there will be another season, and looking forward to the new setting.

  8. what a great cover this is, Ross...
i was thinking perhaps a cover gathering together some of heroes that Sherlock has teamed up with from the comics to form is army of Baker Street Irregulars...
so i went alooking and find many DC characters such as Batman, Superman, Deadman, Elonigated Man, Kid Eternity, Elijah Snow of
    Planetary and the Joker....
while the only Marvel character is Deadpool....
and historically Houdini, Dracula, Jekyll & Hyde, Martians
    and the Invisible Man....
and also the Green Lama and Restin Dane, the Rook.....

  9. I wonder how Mr. Holmes would feel if he ever encountered Hodiah Twist? Probably the same way Dominic Fortune would if he ever met the Scorpion (the short-lived 1970s Atlas Comics hero).
