When I did a recent post poking fun at some truly ugly costume designs, I was surprised to see Jack of Hearts mentioned as another example of an unattractive superhero outfit. I know that it's always gotten a bad rap, but I figured that mostly had to do with the fact that it's intricate pattern is difficult to draw. As a visual, I have always thought that it was pretty cool!
Maybe Psimon's device will have a side-effect that pleases everybody. More specifically? Maybe he'll get "Jekyll-and-Hyded" into Jack of Hearts (Red) and Jack of Hearts (Blue)."
ReplyDeleteI mean, it worked for modern-age Superman! Right?
;-)
Wouldn't that be "Jack of Hearts" and "Jack of Spades"? Would be harder to Photoshop, tho...

Red Kryptonite has canonically just done that to the current Superboy (i.e. Superman's 10-year-old son), too...
LOL, I've met my share of artists that don't care for drawing ol' Jack :D
ReplyDeleteAlways been a fan of him though, he's a bit more obscure and not in the spotlight often.
Complicated costumes should only be drawn by detailed artists which Freeman and Perez are.
ReplyDeleteI am so glad that at least comics companies have not done a merge like banks and other companies have. There be an extinction event with hundreds of characters killed. Current ones like DC's Heroes in Crisis just make me less likely to read.
I'm with you on this one, Ross. Jack of Hearts is complex to draw, but a fun visual. He might even be an interesting addition to the MCU, especially since Phase 4 looks to be emphasizing space-based adventures (he's half-alien, after all).
ReplyDeleteNothing wrong with Jack's costume. In fact, I'd say it's pretty awesome. He could be missing fifth member of KISS.
ReplyDeleteFor me, the main thing wrong with Jack's costumes are the shoulder pads. How does he comb his hair when he can't raise his arms straight up?

ReplyDeleteGhost Rider Johnny Blaze, Nova Richard Ryder and now Jack of Hearts....Is a new Titans West forming?
ReplyDelete@Brother Barnes: nothing will top the current real-life cover where Karen "BumbleBee" Beecher is glaring at Plastic Man (whose formed his left arm and hand into a giant fly swatter behind his back) and muttering:
ReplyDelete"Don't even think about it!"
Lol!
That's the villain Queen Bee not Bumblebee!
DeleteWhen you've seen one black-and-yellow-striped booty, you've seen them all (lol!).
ReplyDeletePlease, Anon! Let's not be politically incorrect, here. :-(
ReplyDeleteToo Bad it wasn't The Queen Bee's device because it would be called: "She's Got The Jack" - AC/DC.
ReplyDelete@Brother Barnes: The Ebony Eyes have it!
