Very few cartoons hold up as well as Bugs, Daffy and company in the original Looney Tunes shorts. They were already considered classics when I was a kid, and nearly five decades later they put most modern cartoons to shame and are still fun tp re-watch. The music, the physicality and design of the characters, the comedic irreverence and the high quality of the animation truly made them timeless.
Ha! As a sequel, you could have Bugs in his Superman suit for the classic Superman vs Captain Marvel!

ReplyDeleteYes, indeed, Ross. Most of the vintage songs my parents loved listening to, while they were growing up, I first learned from watching Golden Age WB cartoons on Old Channel 5 (WNEW-TV, NYC) after school. I especially loved those featuring the Carl Stalling Orchestra!

Try to find a _slow-paced_ love ballad, these days, that _doesn't_ concentrate on just the physical side!
Now we need Tawny the Tiger to have Rabbits for dinner! Or maybe Tawny could form his own tiger squad with Bronze Tiger, Tigger, Calvin's tiger, etc.

ReplyDeleteOf course I have fond memories of many Loony Tunes cartoons, being (I think) only a tad older than you, Ross. Many were run regularly on KPTV-12 in Portland, and I loved the award-winning "What's Opera, Doc?" as well as the now-infamous rabbit season/duck season trilogy.
Hm... I wonder if Yosemite Sam (who has yet to appear, or at least be tagged, in this blog) could have a run-in with Jonah Hex or some other great Western hero?
Maybe Loonatics Unleashed and The Zoo Crew.

...on a side historical note, did you know that back in the '40s when the law suit between National Periodicals (DC) Superman and Fawcett's Captain Marvel was settled with the Marvel Family characters ending their publication in the U.S. that Hoppy the Marvel Bunny continued to appear in his funny animails comics...

well his red and gold Captain Marvel-like costume changed colors to blue and gold, so it looked even more like Superman's...
...and Hoppy the Marvel Bunny was renamed Happy the Magic Bunny!!!
oh and his magi word was no longer "Shazam" but is now "Alizam"....
