Bugs Bunny and Hoppy the Marvel Bunny

Very few cartoons hold up as well as Bugs, Daffy and company in the original Looney Tunes shorts.  They were already considered classics when I was a kid, and nearly five decades later they put most modern cartoons to shame and are still fun tp re-watch.  The music, the physicality and design of the characters, the comedic irreverence  and the high quality of the animation truly made them timeless.

  1. Ha! As a sequel, you could have Bugs in his Superman suit for the classic Superman vs Captain Marvel!

  2. Yes, indeed, Ross. Most of the vintage songs my parents loved listening to, while they were growing up, I first learned from watching Golden Age WB cartoons on Old Channel 5 (WNEW-TV, NYC) after school. I especially loved those featuring the Carl Stalling Orchestra!

"When my dreamboat comes home, then no more my dreams shall roam.
I will meet you, and I'll greet you. Hold you closely, my own."

Try to find a _slow-paced_ love ballad, these days, that _doesn't_ concentrate on just the physical side!

  3. Now we need Tawny the Tiger to have Rabbits for dinner! Or maybe Tawny could form his own tiger squad with Bronze Tiger, Tigger, Calvin's tiger, etc.

  4. Love this so much. Wish I'd thought of it! Anything with those funny animal heroes and/or Looney Tunes or any great cartoons really, will have a special place in my heart.

  5. This is a potentially great and hilarious story that could indeed be done in typical Loony Tunes fashion.

Of course I have fond memories of many Loony Tunes cartoons, being (I think) only a tad older than you, Ross. Many were run regularly on KPTV-12 in Portland, and I loved the award-winning "What's Opera, Doc?" as well as the now-infamous rabbit season/duck season trilogy.

Hm... I wonder if Yosemite Sam (who has yet to appear, or at least be tagged, in this blog) could have a run-in with Jonah Hex or some other great Western hero?

  6. Maybe Loonatics Unleashed and The Zoo Crew.

  7. ...for Bob, how about if we add to your idea of Yosemite Sam and Jonah Hex the great cartoon hero
    Bravestar???
...Ross you continue to produce greatness and amazement at how seemingly effortlessly you do it!
...on a side historical note, did you know that back in the '40s when the law suit between National Periodicals (DC) Superman and Fawcett's Captain Marvel was settled with the Marvel Family characters ending their publication in the U.S. that Hoppy the Marvel Bunny continued to appear in his funny animails comics...
    ...how you may ask???
well his red and gold Captain Marvel-like costume changed colors to blue and gold, so it looked even more like Superman's...
...and Hoppy the Marvel Bunny was renamed Happy the Magic Bunny!!!
oh and his magi word was no longer "Shazam" but is now "Alizam"....

  8. I was just thinking an anthropomorphic assortment was needed. There's a psychic link going on.

  9. "How could I possibly surpass this? I hear you ask?

May I humbly suggest...GODZILLA VS. THE BLACK DRAGON (from "Reign of Fire")!

  10. Cool cover as usual Ross, for a sequel how about Hoppy vs. Thunder Bunny? A bit obscure I know but what the heck. Or Saturn Girl vs. Thanos as they're both from Titan. Or have you done that?

  11. @Isaac: Nope! He hasn't. I just checked.

  12. DC Comics actually published a Yosemite Sam and Jonah Hex comic recently.

  13. Hmmmmmmm!

If a certain band of mutants wound up back in the Old West, led by a certain facially disfigured bounty hunter, would Ross dare to re-name them...The Hex Men?

That was, more-or-less, one of the 'Amalgam Comics' issues.

  15. Mostly less. I'm pretty sure you're thinking of the JLX!

  16. You're each half-right.

The Amalgam group was called "Generation Hex!"

But, of course, two half-rights don't always equal 100% correct. ;-D

  17. ...You do know that Hoppy, like the other Fawcett characters, is now owned by DC and thus Warners, right?

A true crossover might be if either Hoppy or Bugs-as-SuperRabbit met Marvel's Super Rabbit, from Comedy Comics. His weakness was getting hit on his weak point, his head.

  18. Or, failing that, Thunderbunny meets Neal Adams' Atomic Mouse!

  19. @ Cary Comic. Hear, hear. Very good idea. Glad I thought of that! ;-)

  20. @Isaac: Just a slight (if badly needed) revision of your original idea.
