It's been a while since I read the stories, but I seem to remember there being somewhat of a spark of romance between Mademoiselle Marie and Sgt. Rock when they would team up back ing the day. Liked that Rock found some happiness in the midst of battle, and it made sense to me that he was attracted to a woman that was as capable and determined as she was beautiful.
According to the 'DC Legends' series, which was written by Len Wein, Rock and Marie had a son who grew up to become a soldier himself... but Rock was killed (allegedly by the last bullet fired during WW2? or, at least, the last bullet fired in Europe during WW2?) before the boy's birth, and might not even have known Marie was pregnant.

ReplyDeleteReason I have to ask is, the Maginot Line was built by the French to keep the Germans out. It obviously didn't work, and right after the Wehrmacht took Paris no one in France was all that sad about them blowing up the bunkers.
The only way Rock was going to encounter this piece of work would be if he were with the Germans in 1940, which brings up so. MANY. Questions...
Mind you, I could be overthinking it a bit here...
Thanks for spelling out the "mademoiselle" in "Mademoiselle Marie," Ross. When I was realllly young -- as in learning-to-read young -- DC always listed her as "Mlle. Marie," and mentally, I pronounced it "Mill Marie!"

@JR: Fury was probably trying to get back to London with vital info regarding D-Day. And Mlle. Marie probably handed over the info at a rendezvous beyond where the Maginot Line had been!
