The Cat Vs. Cheetah

New rumors are stating that the Wonder Woman sequel will be a Cold War adventure, set in the 1980's.  This is an interesting way to go.  I do hope that it doesn't rule out the possibility of her most iconic foe, Cheetah, showing up in a major way.  I'd love to finally see Barbara Minerva as a live action antagonist.

The Cat and Cheetah first tangled in STF #633...

  1. Cheetah was so often a great villain for Wonder Woman. But I had to wonder... stronger than Hercules, swifter than Mercury, wiser than Athene, magic lasso... and her principal baddie was a chick in a cat suit? It was like some Superman stories that really tried to convince me that someone who wasn't Luthor or Brainiac or Bizzaro had a shot against Superman. The Toyman? The Prankster? Ooo... page 2, and now what's the next storyline? :)

  2. The Wonder Woman sequel should be set during World War 2 so they can use WWII to refer to both World War 2 and Wonder Woman 2. Plus they need to work in the theme song from the old tv show. Steve Trevor can easily be brought back thanks to the interference of a Greek God such as Hades or Zeus. I don't buy that all the Gods are wiped out. Maybe they are hiding or imprisoned by another pantheon of Gods.

I believe the post Crisis version of The Cheetah has mystical based powers. It would be easy enough to tie her origin in with Circe.

  3. Personally, I never liked the were-cheetah angle. But, I supposed it will be more ecologically correct to depict a CGI version of that rather than someone wearing a simulated cheetah-skin unitard (a la Priscilla Rich of Golden Age fame).

As regards today's cover? Interesting match-up! Debra Domaine (Silver Age granddaughter of the above) vs. Patsy Walker who--in this universe--could very well be the granddaughter of Ted "Wildcat" Grant.

  4. And coming soon in comics -- officially announced -- a Wonder Woman/Conan team-up, written by Gail Simone. Yes, seriously.

  5. Awesome cover as per usual.

However, "Red?" I think that appellation would be more appropriate to Hellcat aka Patsy Walker. Greer Grant had raven locks if I recall correctly.

Perhaps there's a hidden back story to this encounter?

  6. I think that _is_ Patsy Walker! And, while I admit that it would be more synchronous if the identical surnames actually made _Greer_ Ted's granddaughter, in the STF-verse, Greer and Patsy could be cousins!

  7. as long as cheetah is part anthro cheetah it makes for better challenge for wonder woman also villians like circe or dr psycho would be cool cameos angel man as throwaway villian

  8. Given that there seems to be no public knowledge of Wonder Woman in the DCEU before "Bats vs Supes", a covert Cold War mission (say, Cheetah as a pre-Avengers Black Widow type recruiting some Amazons for the Soviets and Diana has to bring them back) would probably make more sense that a WWII (where Diana would have at least made it into the newsreels) or a super-heroine adventure. And there really isn't a need for another military war flick in the DCEU.

  9. Rather than making it a costume or CGI make it body paint! I am sure many viewers have seen Sports Illustrated models with body paint and they could do same thing with movie maybe even transforming her into Cheetah via magic via CGI but then using the body painted actress in scenes. This would limit number of scenes they would have her in as the Cheetah but I am MOT interested in repeating the CGI Ares type of scene which was worst part of the movie.

Circe should be the main villain and I'd love it to be in WWII with the Circe allied with the Nazis making Diana go back to action.

    1. I'd go with a combination of make up and prosthetics like Mystique in the X-Men films.

      Don't you mean NOT interested?

I admit that I am a tad confused. According to the cover this is supposed to be The Cat which was the pre-Tigra identity of Greer Grant Nelson who, as Anonymous #1 above pointed out, had raven hair. However, she seems to have red hair and Cheetah calls her "Red" which would indicate that she is Patsy Walker aka Hellcat who wears an almost identical costume. I say "almost identical" because Hellcat's costume didn't include the claw symbol on the chest that The Cat's costume did. Since the costume on the figure on this cover DOES have the claw symbol that leads me back to Greer Grant Nelson.

PROPOSED SOLUTION: The Greer Grant Nelson of the Super-Team Family Universe has red hair. I don't know if you have anything equivalent to the old Marvel Comics No-Prize but....

Also, if it IS Greer Grant Nelson who later becomes Tigra, wouldn't it be cool to see a follow-up in which Tigra goes up against the were-cheetah version of Cheetah?

  11. I love the cover and there are tons of good ideas in the discussion.

    1) The idea that Ted Grant is related to Greer Grant is brilliant! I hope to see a Wildcat/Cat cover someday.
    2) A follow up of Greer as Tigra and the were-cheetah version of Cheetah would be great.
    3) I'm guessing this is Greer and not Patsy and that she was just experimenting with highlights. :)

  12. I'd go for Greer being related to Ted Grant and Patsy being related to Kit Walker. Hellcat and the Ghost-who-Walks would be really cool.

  13. I'm up for Matthew's second suggestion. Perhaps with Sabertooth as the mutual Bad Guy!*

*He might have been hired by the modern Seng Brotherhood to end the line of Ghosts Who Walk.

  15. P.S.---split the difference on the prior suggestions. Have the red "hair" simply be extensions sewn on to the headdress! Similar to the "Batgirl '66" costume worn by the late, great Yvonne Craig.

*Making all the other characters on the old Bat-series think the Domino Dare-doll was a natural redhead was actually a pretty clever in-story gimmick.

  17. How about Cheetah versus Josie and the Pussycats? Or better yet, Cheetah JOINS Josie and the Pussycats!
