While Suicide Squad was a misfire of a film, I can't fault the actors. Will Smith, Margot Robbie and the rest of the cast gave decent performances, but the script just wasn't there yet. The use of pop music was very sloppy and haphazard as compared to Guardians of the Galaxy, which the film was clearly trying to emulate. Still, I do believe that all the elements are there for a good SS film in the future, provided more care is taken with the story.

ReplyDeleteThe only way you're going to get a decent SS movie in the future is to take Zack Snyder out of the equation. He is responsible for more destruction in the DC Universe than all the super-villains combined, as far as I'm concerned.
ReplyDeleteWell, you must be happy that he's stepped down from Justice League during postproduction in order to take time to recover from the death of his daughter Autumn and that Joss Whedon is taking over the film's re-shoots.
DeleteI must admit that I am not disturbed about JW being at the helm of JL. We see what a differential perspective has done for WW. No wonder it was erroneously credited as a Marvel movie.

If I Were Deadshot, I'd rather disappoint "Jolly" Jonah than the Wall.
ReplyDeleteP.S.---I preferred the SS movie to GOTG V.2. I was highly disappointed the final draft of the latter film excluded "Fox On The Run" from the soundtrack.

Well, my sarcastic "you must be happy" response was towards John Small's comment because he pretty much hasn't read the recent news on Snyder.
DeleteIt was never intended to be an actual comment but a sarcastic one since his comment happened not long after Snyder left during postproduction and it was too soon to do a comment like that.
Having Waller kill her people while she is being bailed out really was a bad twist.

I don't think you've read the recent news on Snyder because the comments on here that serves as a jab towards him is a bit too soon since he departed during post production of Justice League in order to grieve the loss of his teenaged daughter, who committed suicide two months ago.

I think part of the problem with Suicide Squad is that it doesn't really lend itself to a movie franchise. Too much subtlety and character for just under an hour. Too dependant on the kind of tone you can only get from setting an espionage story in a superhero comic. If even Superman is dour and destructive how exactly are they supposed to be unique? Hell, a lot of the comic series past that classic John Ostrander run have struggled to recapture the magic.
