For this team, I thought it would be cool to group together heroes with a background in the circus or travelling shows. Yes, I know these guys were all performers and not roustabouts, but I liked the sound of the name so I went with it. By now I know the drill when I post a new team cover - "Nice, but you should have included captain such and such", and this time, I did it to myself! as soon as I was done, I realized that Deadman really should have been on the roster. If I ever revisit this team, I will have to rectify that!
Oh, he's there, I'm sure. But you know Deadman, even when he's there, he's not really there.

Maybe the Roustabouts would be investigating Boston's murder?
Or maybe the mystery of the disappearing audiences. Ringling Bros. is set to close sometime here in the next month or two isn't it?
There's also a hero actually called "The Roustabout" in Astro City, though I doubt Brent Anderson's art would have fit the style on the cover.
ReplyDeleteAgain, here is an example of why the powers that be at DC and Marvel should look at your ideas and actually, every once in awhile, consider publishing the story. While I like all the ideas that I have seen, I think this one is among the tops.
ReplyDeleteI cannot get around in my mind seeing the Ringmaster involved here. I cannot think of what others. I had forgotten about the Circus of Crime until this post, but I looked back at them and saw them to be somewhat lame. I like AirDave's idea of them investigating Boston Brand's murder. Maybe the Ringmaster (and whatever other villains one could think of) would be behind it.

ReplyDeleteYes I agree about Marvel & DC looking at what you do. Maybe they can form a company which can do team ups making the process easier. Worked for a company like that - it was formed from two companies for specific government proposal.
ReplyDeleteOh, don't be so hard on yourself! I'm sure he was occupying either Kurt, Clint, or Dick. GR's body was already spoken for. And, his spirit form was canonically incompatible with Kryptonian physiology in the Silver Age. So, that probably holds equally true with the humanoids of Apokolips and New Genesis!

ReplyDeleteDick seems to have the "aura" showing Deadman's presence. Showing the Circus of Crime may make the cover crowded. I'm surprised you could only find DC and Marvel characters, there are probably other companies with characters that would fit!
ReplyDeleteThe cover looks like many of the full-page mini-posters in the comics in the 60s where the characters are together ready for action. Good job of selecting characters and poses, they do look like a team.
As others have said, Deadman may well be there, occupying one of his fellows; all you really needed was to add his name!
ReplyDeleteThat leads me to an idea that could be done some April 1st (or close to it): A team of invisible characters, such as Sue Storm and some version of the LSH's Invisible Kid. Just show a plain white cover!
