The Dark Knight and Old Man Logan
The new Justice League trailer has been released and it looks like DC is determined to let us know that is will be a less gloomy film than Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, with comedic moments being almost exclusively featured - even Batman gets in on the one liners. It still doesn't really feel like the League to me with no sign of Superman or Green Lantern and the inclusion of Cyborg as a founding member, but that doesn't mean it won't be fun to watch. The big surprise for me was Aquaman's personality, which seems to have borrowed a lot from John DiMaggio's turn as the character on the animated Batman: The Brave and the Bold. When he was "surfing" the Batmobile at the end, I half expected him to shout "Outrageous!"
I'd never come across old man Logan, so I looked him up, Wikipedia says he has children named Scotty and Jade. Named after Green Lantern Alan Scott and his daughter Jade perhaps?
ReplyDeleteReally good cover and team up idea.
ReplyDelete@Anonymous: wrong company man. Scotty was named after Cyclops, and Jade? I guess close enough to Jean without being obvious?
@Anon and Dale: Either that, or she was named after Jennifer Walters' complexion. ;-D
ReplyDelete@Ross: Most excellent concept, yet! Let the battle royale commence!
Ooops! Almost forgot; they've started showing the Wonder Woman trailer, as well. Looks like Steve Trevor has been ret-conned as a World War I flying ace working for Le Deauxieme Bureau (French army intelligence).
ReplyDeleteLove the cover but dialog with villains mentioned both is unneeded unless it is a setup for further issues. In a world where both were existing it could have been as simple as Logan saying "I am not here to take you in, I am here to help you."
ReplyDeleteGlad I'm not the only one to see the echoes of Batman/Aquaman from Brave and the Bold. Would LOVE that version. Perhaps on the DCU on TV...?
ReplyDeleteThis makes me wonder what Dark Claw would look like at that age.
ReplyDeleteI'll never understand people's unsolicited criticisms.

ReplyDeleteI have no issue with the comment. As long as one is polite about it, I don't mind a critique. I'll be the last person to suggest my covers are perfect.

ReplyDeleteThomas Wayne vs Old Man Logan would be nice!
ReplyDeleteDale, my comment about the name similarity was aimed specifically at this blog, where characters from different publishers meet. Yesterday we had the Danvers twins. On earth stf, why couldn't the Green Lantern be godfather to the Wolverine's children?
ReplyDeleteThis is a great idea for a team-up.
ReplyDeleteI was a big fan of the original "Old Man Logan" story right up until the ending which I thought was just plain awful. It's a shame how a terrible ending can can cast a negative shadow over an otherwise great story....
I just thought of something that the "Dark Knight" and "Old Man Logan" stories had in common. They both featured impaired archers. The Dark Knight had a one-armed Green Arrow and Old Man Logan featured a blind Hawkeye....
ReplyDelete@Glenn Host: that's how they used to do it back in the Good Old Silver Age.
