Silver Surfer and Star Trek

The Silver Surfer would fit in quite well with the Star Trek universe I think.  Like the crew of The Enterprise,  Norrin Radd is known to span the spaceways trying to learn about new life forms and broaden his understanding of the universe.  I can easily imagine any number of occasions where their paths might cross.

  1. Hmmmmm! I wonder how Marvel and IDW would handle this team-up in the real world? Personally, I'd have the Guardian of Forever bring him forward, to the 23rd century, after it somehow sensed the Enterprise's discovery of the Cube. I can just picture the Guardian telling the Surfer:

"Such limitless power is not meant for their hands. It is, therefore, PARAMOUNT that you take it from them."

    Sorry! Couldn't resist. :-)

  2. Good pun, Cary, but unnecessary scenario. It's likely that the Power Cosmic extends Norrin's lifespan somewhat, so he'd still be around in the 23rd Century.

Say... come to think on it, I wonder how Kirk (or Picard or Janeway) would deal with the Phantom Stranger...?

  3. Knowing Jim Kirk, he'd probably think PS was just another shapeshifting space-chicken (like Sylvia and Korob)!

  4. @Anonynmous: Yeah, most likely.

@Bob Greenwade: Well, then, I'd have Federation archeologists discovering the Cube as having been the power source for the mind-swapping device on Camus II. Leading to the 23rd century counterpart of Norrin Radd being contacted by the katra of Amanda Grayson (descendant of Robert "Marvel Boy" Grayson) regarding the potential danger from its theft and misuse!

Such as that being secretly plotted by Thanos and the Squire of Gothos.

  5. Cary, THAT is a story I'd love to see! (I'd leave out the Squire, but otherwise, it's totally workable!)

  6. Ideas for Marvelous Trek crossovers:

    (1) Our stalwart crew and the Surfer have to fight his old boss Galactus, who has come to the Trek Earth, or maybe to Vulcan--and he brought another Doomsday Machine!

    (2) X-Men/Trek crossover: Miranda Jones becomes hostess to the Phoenix Force--or maybe jump ahead to TNG and make it Deanna (or Lwaxana) Troi. If TNG is used, it might be fun to watch a righteously PO'd Deanna-Phoenix lay the smack down on Q and/or the Borg.

  7. Borg vs. Starro would seem the obvious match.

  8. @Kid Charlemagne: how about Thor/Star Trek:TOS? With the thunder god having to take on the son of Apollo and Carolyn Palamas. As I understand it, "Who Mourns For Adonais?" was supposed to end with Dr. McCoy discovering Carolyn's pregnancy!

  9. @Cary: You are correct that Carolyn Palamas originally ended up pregnant. I wonder what would have become of such a child, in the Trek universe. In TOS, superhuman humans were usually portrayed as evil--think Gary Mitchell or Khan Noonian Singh. Maybe Palamas would have been encouraged to have an abortion--and if she refused, then maybe a Section 31 agent would have slipped her an abortion-inducing chemical.

To bring the X-Men back into the picture, I expect the humans of the Trek universe, despite their acceptance of aliens, might well hate and fear mutant humans if they emerged, due to the crimes of the Augments (the retconned name for Khan and his people). The normal humans might even assume that the mutations were induced, and start a witch-hunt for imagined renegade scientists.

Someone should write a story about the Palamas offspring, if that hasn't already happened. ^_^

  12. Kid Charlemagne, John Byrne's Star Trek- New Visions #11 features just such a story entitled, "Of Woman Born."
