Gamora joins The Justice League of America

With Supergirl moving to the CW the 4-day block of DC Comics programming the network will have opens up some great possibilities.  They have already established Green Arrow, Black Canary, Vixen, The Atom, Hawkman, Hawkgirl, The Flash, Firestorm, Vibe, Red Tornado and Martian Manhunter as characters on their various shows - Let's have a TV Justice League crossover already!  The pieces are already in place!

  1. There's an urban legend that the green-skinned alien woman named Willow--once aided by Aquaman, Elongated Man, and the Atom--was actually a thinly-disguised Mantis hiding out in the Silver Age DCU from Kang the Conqueror.

What if the "Crisis @ CW" could be precipitated (ALWAYS wanted to use that word!) in a similar manner? With, say, Star Sapphire pinch-hitting for, say, Nebula (self-styled granddaughter of Thanos)?

  2. It's not an urban legend. Both Mantis and Willow were created by Steve Englehart. He continued the character as Lorelei over at Eclipse. Then brought Mantis back when he started writing Silver Surfer for Marvel. Great Orkney as usual Ross. :) Gregg

  4. Don't forget Supergirl and Superman, both seen in "Supergirl" obviously, and Batman - not seen, but implied in Legends (Vandal Savage referred to killing men of steel and seeing dark knights fall) and Flash (which refers to WayneTech in the future.)

Green Lantern has also been referred to in Arrow via Coast City and "this test pilot I knew in Coast City."

And considering Man of Steel and Batman vs Superman, the TV Justice League could well do better than the cinematic one...

  5. I go so far as to hope one day for an adaptation of the JLA/Avengers crossover.

I don't have a lot of confidence that it'll actually happen, but I can hope.

  6. The Justice League story this cover is based on is the one that brought me back to read the Justice League.

  7. One of the highlights of the jla/avengers crossover was a single frame with the original and Marvel versions of Captain Marvel, both responding "thank you" to someone calling out. "watch out, captain marvel" Ross has also had a captains marvel cover, but a different Marvel comics version.

  8. @ BG---you've got a better chance of seeing Spider-man being inducted into Femforce, ;-)

  9. This cover is from a great stand alone issue of JLA from the 1980s, written by Gerry Conway (I believe) one of my favorite writers. Ya know, I can't say enough how much I miss the entire 1980s run of 90% of DC Comics. What an era. I really feel sorry for anyone who missed. You brought a comic or two, along with a pack of cubcakes & your favorite soft drink, and had a good solid read, from the first SPLASH page, all the way to the Letters to the Editor column in the back.

  10. I misread Gamora as Gamera on my blog feed, and was sorely disappointed when I clicked through to the actual cover :(

  12. @Kaptain Kobold - Hey, maybe we could have a Gamora vs. Gamera cover someday! What do you think, Ross?

  13. @Bob Greenwade: maybe with the TMNT caught in the middle?

  14. @Anonymous--now that's one three-for-all I'd _willingly_ shell out $5.95 plus tax to see (in the pages of a real-world comic).
